Ballymac Awil
Ballymac Awil - 8/1
The favourite for the 2026 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby is the Liam Dowling-owned and trained Ballymac Awil.
The progeny of Kyle Mozart and Ballymac Floral is a twice scorer on the field, but first booked his ticket to Clonmel during the second week of the Coursing season at the Galway & Oranmore Derby Trial Stak e after overcoming Ebony Hope by a length following a tough buckle.
Following an early season qualifying victory, Awil came out to battle again, this time where he won the Lixnaw (O’Carroll O’Connor Cup) after beating Termsn Conditions in the final at the end of last month. The dog was noted as "impressive throughout" with a serious of dominant performances on the Kerry field.
Callaway Pat
Callaway Pat - 8/1
The joint second favourite for the 2026 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby is Callaway Pat , who is owned by the Denis Murphy Loughlin Bar Syndicate.
Callaway Pat's first outing on the field this season was at Abbeyfeale Trial Stake in week 14, clocking well on the way to the final before losing in the final to Seven Barrows.
It was second time the charm for the dog in the Tubbercurry Derby Trial Stake earlier this month where the dog booked it's ticket to Clonmel after a final victory over Money Minister . The dog then named when named Freestone Bridge and owned by Pat Loughlin and Syndicate, though the dog has since changed ownership.
The dog son of Barrack Boru and Glorious Dame is trained by Owen McKenna f or the syndicate which includes ICC President Pat Loughlin and looks another real contender for glory at the 2026 National Meeting.
Nine Darter
Nine Darter- 8/1
The joint second favourite for the 2026 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby is the Stephen O Carroll Jr -trained Nine Darter.
The son of Kyle Mozart and a dam with strong lines including Ballybeg Hail booked his ticket for Clonmel and owner Stephen O Carroll Jr from Lisselton in the Derby Trial Stake at Cashe l last October. Nine Darter was impressive throughout the stake, visibly improving with every course showing promising pace. Connections arrived with low expectations, but he did the business in the final , persuading the judge late in a competitive course with King Cormack.
Following that earlier season success Nine Darter delivered another standout performance in week 11 of the season at the Johnstown & Urlingford meeting, powering to victory in the J ohnny Doyle Memorial Cup the main all-age stake with De Seventh Pious taking runner-up honours after dominating the decider.
His overall form marks him as a real contender for the 2026 BOYLE Sports Coursing Derby title . Drawn in the second quarter paired against Ravin Hill in the early rounds at Powerstown he's listed at each-way odds around 8/1 to 10/1 in BoyleSports markets, reflecting solid backing ahead of the 100th National Meeting.
Matchstick Man
Matchstick Man - 8/1
Another 8/1 shot for the 2026 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby is Matchstick Man, who is trained by a man who is no stranger to success at Powerstown in Brendan Matthews for jointl owners John & Fintan Comerford
Matchstick Man is the son of Blades Of Hope and Ballymac Amber, who was first seen on the field at Glin where he clocked well winning two courses before being knocked out in the third round by Ballymac Blade. He would book his place at the 2026 National Meeting on the second following his Derby Trial Stake success in Castleisland in Week 5 of the Coursing season, where he defeated Loughard Rush i n the final.
Following that success in Castleisland he was next seen after being entered into the prestigious Patsy Byrne Memorial Corn Na Feile Puppy Derby at Abbeyfeale a renowned trial stake famous for producing future National Meeting stars Matchstick Man was heavily fancied and pre-coursing was priced as 6/4. He would get past the opening two rounds defeating Mr Tiger and Ravin Hill before losing in the semi-final to Awaiting Trial.
Matchstick Man looks a real contender for Derby Glory.
Magical Titan
Magical Titan -8/1
Next in the betting is Magical Titan , who can also be gotten at 8/1 for the 2026 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby who is owned and trained by Patrick Guilfoyle.
The son of Blades Of Hope and Savage Love first appeared on the scene at the Nenagh Derby Trial Stake in week 6 of the season where the Patrick Guilfoyle trained dog was impressive throughout and was even labeled by some as the “star of the meeting” before being beaten in the dying strides of the Final course by Vader in a course which could have been called either way!
Second time was to be the charm for Magical Titan, who recovered well from that disappointment at Nenagh to book his ticket f or the 2026 National Meeting at Clonmel when running up a convincing winner of the Derby Trial Stake at the Rathkeale meeting defeating Cooga Jacko in the final
This fawn dog has plenty of gears and has run BoyleSportsMajor close already, certainly one to keep in the notepad.
