Magical Titan

Magical Titan - 4/1

Favourite for the 2026 Irish Cup is Magical Titan , who is 4/1 to continue his dominance on the field for The Magical Syndicate by Pat Guilfoyle

The son of Blades Of Hope and Savage Love first appeared on the scene at the Nenagh Derby Trial Stake in week 6 of the season where the Patrick Guilfoyle trained dog was impressive throughout and was even labeled by some as the “star of the meeting” before being beaten in the dying strides of the Final course by Vader in a course which could have been called either way!

Second time was to be the charm for Magical Titan, who recovered well from that disappointment at Nenagh to book his ticket for the 2026 National Meeting at Clonmel when running up a convincing winner of the Derby Trial Stake at the Rathkeale meeting, defeating Cooga Jacko in the final.

He arrived at Powerstown with a big reputation and won his opening two courses in 12.37 and 12.41 before being knocked out in the third round in the final stride by Seven Barrows in 12.41, but he headed into the Irish Cup as favourite following a trend where three of the last four winners were knocked out in the same stage at Clonmel .

He won his opening round of the event on Friday when he was “very impressive”, stretching clear from Master Tactician in 12.04. Straight run.

Ballymac Awil

Ballymac Awil 8/1

Joint second favourite for the 2026 Irish Cup is the Liam Dowling -owned and trained Ballymac Awil.

The progeny of Kyle Mozart and Ballymac Floral is a twice scorer on the field, but first booked his ticket to Clonmel during the second week of the Coursing season at the Galway & Oranmore Derby Trial Stake after overcoming Ebony Hope by a length following a tough buckle.

Following an early season qualifying victory, Awil came out to battle again, this time where he won the Lixnaw (O’Carroll O’Connor Cup) after beating Termsn Conditions in the final.

He was expected to be in the business end at the National Meeting, and he duly delivered, reaching the final following performances which included a 12.18 dismissal of Abbey Einstein and a 12.12 win over Lisahally . Unfortunately, connections came undone in the final by Seven Barrows after stumbling at the final stage.

His Irish Cup campaign began Friday with an 11.91 leading all the way against Jiving Intherain, though many thought he would’ve clocked stronger.

Cooga Magic

Cooga Magic - 5/1

The other joint second favourite for the Irish Cup is Cooga Magic, who is owned by the Johnny McLoughlin & Cooga Syndicate and is trained by Michael O’Donovan .

The second season dog is the progeny of Boylesportsmagic and Gillogue Lulu and is best known for his runner-up finish in the 2025 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby at Clonmel, where he clocked 12.91, 13.01, 12.94, 12.87 before losing out in the final to Gone To Strand.

He opened his 2026 Irish Cup campaign with a nice opening run, leading all the way to the escape to win in 11.93, which was marked as an impressive run, though it wasn’t as fast as Ashmore Mac, who won in 11.86.

Five O Five

Five O Five - 8/1

One to watch for the 2026 Irish Cup is Five O Five , who is trained by Dan O'Connor for owners Dan J O’Connor and Patrick Fitzgerald.

Five O Five was a prominent performer on the field last season and at one point was 6/1 favourite for the BOYLE Sports Coursing Derby following his Derby Trial Stake victory in Mallow, as well as his victory in the Corn Na Feile Puppy Derby in Abbeyfeale . He performed well early in the 2025 Derby, clocking 13:00 and 12:98 before being eliminated.

The April 2023 son of Watchman and Highland Kathy qualifies due to being a serial scorer on the field, defeating Delgado in the Rakes of Mallow All Age Stake, winning the Gilligan McMahon Memorial Cup at Killimer-Kilrush, defeating Olderbut Nowiser and was runner-up to Kozy Lady in the Corne Na Feile All Age Cup in Abbeyfeale.

After finishing seventh in the qualification table after 12.5 points and €4,565, Five O Five first-round course will be against Banoffee Pie.

At the 2026 National Meeting, he was an impressive winner of the Champion Stakes, clocking 12.08, 12.25 to defeat Banofee Pie and Moyle Alonzo and was “classy” in his final victory over Kerry Watch, though there was no clock.

He was lucky in his opening round on Friday, though, looking to be offline for the majority of the course with Dobbseys Boy . Luckily, no turn and judged to reach escape first, albeit the pup was much more online. 12.19
