Liadh Ní Riada has leaped up the betting for the Irish Presidential Election even though Sinn Féin have yet to reveal who they are putting on the ballot.
The party’s Ard Chomhairle is due to meet this weekend to select a candidate for the Election at the end of October, with MEP Liadh Ní Riada and Belfast solicitor John Finucane the frontrunners to get the nod.
But it’s Ní Riada, who started the week as a 25/1 shot, who is now 8/1 third favourite to win the Election after a rush of money for the MEP during the week.
Businessman Sean Gallagher was also backed this week and is a 9/2 shot from 5/1 after securing a place on the ballot and currently poses the most likely threat to Michael D Higgins’ bid for a second term.
Higgins is still 1/6 to avoid becoming the first Irish President to be denied a second term in office at the hands of the electorate.
