Mark Durkan is up against the odds in his bid for election to the European Parliament as Irish voters hit the polls on Friday.

Former Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald is a red hot 1/50 shot to take a seat in Dublin but former SDLP leader, Durkan, who sprung a surprise earlier this year by announcing he was standing for Fine Gael in the constituency, is now facing outside odds to join his running mate on the continent.

There is an extra reserve seat up for grabs in Dublin to be filled once the UK leaves the EU, but the former Westminster MP for Foyle has...

drifted to 10/1 in the week leading up to the vote having been 3/1 just a week ago. ""

Sinn Féin’s Lynn Boylan (1/8), Barry Andrews (1/6) and Ciaran Cuffe from the Green Party (1/6) are all odds-on with Clare Daly (Independents4Change) not out of the picture at 11/10.

Fine Gael are however firm favourites to come out with most of the Irish seats in the EU Election at 1/5 from 1/4, with Fianna Fáil drifting from 5/2 to 10/3 on the eve of polling day.
