2025 Champion Dog Stake Favourites
Ballymac Sports - 4/6
The red-hot favourite for the 2025 Champion Stakes is no stranger to success at Powerstown having won the Derby last year he will be searching for back-to-back successes for Liam Dowling and his team.
Following his Derby success last year it was always going to be interesting to see if he could carry his dominant performances on the field into the All-Age scene. He has duly delivered too with the “tailless wonder” yet to taste defeat in 21 courses (2 byes) winning at Castleisland the place where he won his Derby Trial Stake last year before doing the same at Ballyduff in November.
The White and Brindle January 2022 son of Boylesportsmagic and Ballymac Amber is arguably the quickest around right now and will take some beating in Clonmel this time around again.
Ballymac Sports to win - 4/6
Navalny 2/1
The second favourite for the 2025 Champions Stakes is Navalny Trained by Brendan Matthews for Fintan & John Comerford, Matthews is a serious operator on the coursing scene looking to land his 10th Champion Stakes victory.
Navalny won the Glin Trial Stake last year but was unable to put his ability to the test in the Derby after being withdrawn through injury. He returned to Glin this season to land his owner a 10th Desmond Cup. That was followed by a Loughrea Connacht Cup adding to his accolades on the field.
The White and Black March 2022 Whelp is also bred in the purple being the son of Newinn Wonder and Foxhollow Queen who both found success both on the field and in the breeding paddocks.
Navalny to win - 2/1
Spartan King 7/2
The third favourite for the 2025 Champions Stakes is Spartan King another member of the famed Brendan Matthews kennel.
It was a tough start to the season for Spartan King with early exits at Old Kilcullen and Johnstown & Urlingford, but made up for it at the Templetouhy Premier Cup landing 12 points on the Champions Stakes table for the victory.
The May 2022 son of Metal Man and Icon Queen has winning form on the Powerstown field having reached the semi-finals of the T.A. Morris Stake but was beaten four lengths by Ballymac Sports in the Derby. It would take some training performance to make up the gap between both dogs.
Spartan King to win - 7/2

2025 Champion Bitch Stake Favourites
Ballymaccallaway- 4/6
The red-hot favourite for the 2025 Champion Bitch Stakes is another who is no stranger to success at Powerstown, the reigning Oaks Champion will be looking to become the first bitch to land the Oaks/Champion Bitch double for the Dowling training team.
Ballymaccallaway extended her unbeaten record on the field with victory at Glin and qualification for the Castleisland Cup final from which she was withdrawn. However, that was followed by a first-round score in Millstreet’s unfinished North Cork Cup at Castleisland where she clocked the second slowest.
The White and Fawn January 2022 whelp is another out of Boylesporttsmagic and Ballymac Amber and despite recent scares, if she’s injury-free and back to her best few will be able to land a glove on her in running.
Ballymaccallaway to win- 4/6
Arctic Heiguer 3/1
The joint second favourite for the 2025 Champion Bitch Stakes is Artic Heiguer, who is owned by the Heiguer Five O-Syndicate and trained by Dan Brassil.
Heiguer was one of the market leaders for last year's Oaks but was disappointingly eliminated for punters in the third round. She secured a return to Powerstown following wins at Lixnaw and Dungarvan this year tying with 3 on 10 points but ahead of them on prize money won.
The January 2022 daughter of Kyle Mozart and Mouse Is Fire has won 8/8 courses this season and is fancied to beat Apes Sky in the first round but would then be primed for a likely semi-final against Ballymaccallaway.
Arctic Heiguer to win - 3/1
Magical Amelie 3/1
The other joint second favourite for the 2025 Champion Bitch Stakes is Magical Amelie jointly owned by Sanda Guilfoyle and trainer Pat Guilfoyle.
Magical Amelie was a first-round casualty during last season’s Oaks but would then go on to win the Kitty Butler consolation stake. She qualified for Clonmel this time around following points picked up in 3 of her 6 outings finishing runner-up at Kilflynn which preceded victories in the Rathdowney and Clonakilty All-Age Bitch Stakes.
The May 2022 daughter of Blades of Hope and Magical Misty will arrive at Clonmel well-fancied by connections to make a run to at least to the final where anything could happen against potentially Ballymaccallaway.
Magical Amelie to win - 3/1
