Can Clark continue stunning form?
Clark looking for more of the same
Wyndham Clark will seek to continue his hot streak at the Travelers Championship this week, while Xander Schauffele could also be a man to watch as he looks to finally break his 2026 title duck. Clark’s transformation from a player struggling to take home a six-figure payday earlier this year to major winner has been nothing short of remarkable. In his first 12 events of 2026, Clark recorded just three top-20 finishes, with a best of 13th in the season-opening American Express . However, since missing his third cut in six tournaments at the PGA Championship in May, Clark has appeared a man possessed.
He won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson , finished third and 11th at the Memorial and Canadian Open respectively before winning the US Open at the weekend , with his $4.5million winners cheque doubling his prize money for the year. The 32-year-old, who smashed up a locker after missing the cut at last year’s US Open at Oakmont , came out top at a Shinnecock Hills course rated as one of the toughest in golf to add to his 2023 US Open win.
He said: “The first ( US Open win) was kind of just the breakthrough of knowing I can do it, and then this one was a lot of redemption. Last year was so tough, a terrible year. I left this place in shambles, and it's amazing what a year can do. I'm leaving here this Sunday as a champion, and I'm just so blessed. Thank you, guys.” Clark is 22/1 to add the Travelers to his growing trophy collection but the field remains a tough one, with the only leading name missing being Rory McIlroy .
Schauffele to break title drought?
The Contenders
Scottie Scheffler is the 18/5 outright favourite with BOYLE Sports and the world number one should be in contention again having been victorious here in 2024 , while Tommy Fleetwood and Schauffele are 14/1 to claim a first win of the season.
Schauffele's last tournament victory was in October and his mixed form has seen him drop down from fourth to 11th in the world rankings. The two-time major champion , who has won at least one tournament every year since 2017, has recorded five top-10 finishes in 2026 but his best performance so far was at the Players, where he was third.
Putting has been an issue for the 33-year-old but if he can resolve that then he should start going from challenger to champion, and TPC River Highlands would be a great place to begin. He was champion here in 2022 and of the 26 career rounds he has played at the venue, 20 have seen him score in the 60s, seven of which have been 65 or under.
River Highlands should also provide a welcome relief to players after the gruelling challenge of Shinnecock Hills . Only three players - champion Clark, Sam Burns and Tom Kim - finished under par at the daunting Long Island course , but the short hop 50 miles due north will provide a very different sort of test. The average winning score on the much smaller 6,844-yard Connecticut course over the last four years has been almost 20 under par, and accuracy will be more important than power with a high cost for missing the fairway.
Fleetwood, who surrendered a three-shot lead heading into the final round of the Travelers last year to finish runner-up , will feel he has unfinished business, while 2023 and 2025 winner Keegan Bradley (33/1) along with Burns , Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick and Kim Si-woo - all of whom are 16/1 - will also be fancying their chances.
