The Masters is one of snooker's Triple Crown events, along with the World Championship and the UK Championship. It is being held at Alexandra Palace in London from January 7th-14th in what will be the 50th edition of the prestigious event.

Ronnie O'Sullivan has won the tournament a record 7 times, followed by Stephen Hendry with 6 titles and Mark Selby with 5. Judd Trump is the reigning champion after winning his second-ever Masters title in 2023.

The Favourite for The Masters is Ronnie O’Sullivan at odds of 11/8. Those odds suggest that O’Sullivan has a 42.1% chance of winning The Masters this year per the latest snooker betting odds at BoyleSports.

The World Number 1 and 7-time winner of The Masters (1993, 1997, 2001, 2007, 2014, 2017, 2018) is still going strong 31 years into his professional career.

O’Sullivan chooses his events selectively these days. This has arguably prolonged his longevity as a player. This season ‘The Rocket’ has reached the third round of the UK Open, Quarter-Final of the Wuhan Open, Semi-Finals of the International Championship, won The Shanghai Masters in September and most recently won the UK Championship last month.

The 48-year-old has been drawn against Ding Junhui in the 1st round of this tournament, a rematch of the 2007 Masters final which O’Sullivan won. 

O'Sullivan has been brilliant throughout the tournament beating Ding 6-3 in the First Round, beating Barry Hawkins 6-3 in the Quarter-Final to book a Semi-Final place against Shaun Murphy.

Judd Trump (Defending Champion)

The Second Favourite for The Masters snooker 2024 is Judd Trump at odds of 9/4. Those odds imply that Trump has a 30.8% chance of winning this tournament according to the latest snooker odds at BoyleSports.

“The Ace in the Pack” is the reigning Masters Champion following his 2023 Masters success.

Trump, 34, has been in brilliant form during the 2023/24 season. He has won the English Open, Wuhan Open and Northern Ireland Open in three successive tournaments becoming only the fifth player after Ray Reardon, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry and Ding Junhui to win three ranking tournaments in a row.

The success in Northern Ireland was his 20th consecutive match won, making multiple recoveries throughout the event, from 1–3 to 5–4 in his quarter-final match against Stephen Maguire and from 1–4 to 6–4 against Barry Hawkins in their semi-final. His unbeaten run ended at 22 matches against Maguire in the last 32 at the 2023 International Championship as he was beaten 6–3.

Trump won his First Round game in a 6-5 thriller against Kyren Wilson and now is drawn to play Ali Carter in the Quarter-Final.

Mark Selby

The 3rd favourite for The Masters is Mark Selby at 9/2 odds. Those odds imply that Selby has a 18.2% chance of winning the 2024 Masters.

‘The Jester’, World Number 5 is the 3rd most successful player in the history of the event having won 3 times and finished as runner-up on a further 2 occasions. However, Selby’s last victory at The Masters came all the way back in 2013 and he hasn’t reached the final since 2014.

The 40-year-old hasn’t yet shown the ability to win a tournament this season but has shown flashes of form. He made the semi-finals of the European Masters, finished runner-up in the British Open, a Shanghai Masters Semi-Finalist and most recently reached the Quarter Final of the UK Championship before losing out to Judd Trump 3-6.

Selby made light work of Robert Milkins 6-1 in the First Round and has now been drawn against Mark Allen in a potential blockbuster Quarter-Final.

Shaun Murphy

World Ranking: 6th

Masters Titles: 1

Next up in the betting for the 2024 Masters is "The Magician" Shaun Murphy who is priced up at 5/1. Those odds imply that Robertson has a 16.7% chance of winning this tournament.

Shaun Murphy resides in Ireland with his wife (making him  the honorary Irishman in this tournament!) won this event in 2015 when he beat Neil Robertson by a comprehensive 10-2 scoreline.

Murphy is arguably playing the best snooker of his career at the moment winning the Players Championship, Tour Championship and Championship League in 2023.

He made light work of Zhang Anda 6-2 in the First Round before beating Jack Lisowski 6-3 in the Quarter-Final. However, a tough tie against Ronnie O'Sullivan is what stands between himself and a place in the final!

Mark Allen

World Ranking: 3rd

Masters Titles: 1

Further out in the betting to win The Masters in 2024 is Mark Allen who has been given odds of 9/1. Those odds suggest that Allen has a 10% chance of lifting the trophy at Alexandra Palace this January.

‘The Pistol’ won the 2018 Masters when he defeated Kyren Wilson 10-7 in the final but hasn’t been back to the final in this event since then.

Allen is having a weaker season than last with several 1st-round and early-round exits including at the UK Championship recently. However, he has shown flashes of brilliance reaching the Quarter-Final of the Wuhan Open and winning The Snooker shoot-out and the Champion of Champions trophies.

The 37-year-old faces a tricky First-round draw against John Higgins, but on his day he is a match for anyone on the table.

Neil Robertson

World Ranking: 10th

Masters Titles: 0

Next up in the betting for the 2024 Masters is Ali Carter who is priced up at 22/1. Those odds imply that he has a 4.3% chance of winning this tournament.

"The Captain"  (44) is one of most underrated and toughest players on tour with 6 tournament wins to his name, there was always the suggestion he had triple crown event in him including coming runner-up in this tournament in 2020 when he lost 10-8 to Stuart Bingham.

He has shown glimpses too recently being runner-up in the Wuhan Open,  Quarter-Final in the International Championship and Champion of Champions along with a Semi-Final finish at the Snooker Shoot Out.

He overcame Mark Williams 4-6 in the First Round and now faces Judd Trump for a place  in the Semi-Final against Mark Selby or Mark Alllen.

The Masters Snooker Prize Money

The winner of the Masters will receive £250,000. The runner-up will receive £100,000.

The total prize fund is £750,000 and there is a £15,000 prize on offer for the player with the highest break.
