What Is The World Cup Golden Glove?
The Golden Glove is the award handed out to the most outstanding goalkeeper at the World Cup. It is one of the most prized accolades for goalkeepers and the list of previous winners includes some of the greatest ‘keepers to have graced the game of football.
Team success in the FIFA World Cup is critically important in determining who will claim the Golden Glove.
""
Since 1994, all but one of the Golden Glove winners played on a team that reached the World Cup final.
The only ‘keeper who didn’t was Courtois who played on a Belgium team that reached the semi-final stage and finished third at the 2018 World Cup.
The winner of the award is selected by the FIFA Technical Study Group.

Thibaut Courtois
The Golden Glove winner at the 2018 Russia World Cup was Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian shot-stopper had an incredible tournament last time around as he recorded 27 saves in the seven games he played during the competition.
His 27 saves were more than any other ‘keeper at that World Cup. Courtois’ country Belgium made it as far as the semi-final thanks to his performances before they were knocked out by eventual champions France.
As mentioned earlier, he is the only goalkeeper to win the award without a World Cup Final appearance since 1994. With Courtois in goal his team only conceded six goals over their seven games played which is less than one goal a game.
World Cup Golden Glove Contenders
Alisson Becker @ 9/2
The favourite in the betting for the Golden Glove at the 2022 Qatar World Cup is Brazil’s first choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Premier League fans will be familiar with Alisson who has been the starter for Liverpool over the last few years.
Alisson deserves the favourite tag here because not only is he a top ‘keeper, but his country, Brazil, are the favourites to win the 2022 World Cup. As we have seen over the history of Golden Glove winners, team success in the competition is a critical factor in who ends up winning this award.
There is a very good chance that tournament favourites Brazil @ 4/1 make the semi-finals or better at this tournament which will put Alisson in with a great chance of winning this award. You can back Alisson at 9/2 to win the World Cup Golden Glove.

Thibaut Courtois @ 11/2
The winner of this award at the 2018 World Cup is the second favourite in the betting this time around. Courtois has been one of the top goalies in the world for a number of years now, with successful stints at Chelsea before he joined his current team Real Madrid.
The highlight of Courtois’ career is undoubtedly his Man of the Match performance against Liverpool in the most recent Champions League final. His shot-stopping that day almost singlehandedly got Real Madrid over the line against a fancied Liverpool side.
The Belgian ‘keeper is in fact the only goalkeeper to have ever won the golden glove in the Premier League, La Liga, Champions League and at the FIFA World Cup. Courtois is 11/2 to repeat as Golden Glove winner in this 2022 World Cup.
Manuel Neuer @ 6/1
The 2022 Qatar World Cup will be the fourth consecutive World Cup that Manuel Neuer appears in as the starting goalkeeper for Germany. At 36 years of age this could well be the last World Cup for one of the great goalkeepers of modern times.
Neuer won this award in 2014 thanks to the important role he played in Germany's World Cup winning side. The long-time Bayern Munich starter and captain is still one of the best in the world at his position. Proof of this is him having the top save percentage in the Bundesliga this season.
Germany are 6th favourite in the World Cup outright betting at 10/1 and if they can get to the semi-finals then Neuer will have every chance of winning a second Golden Glove award. Neuer is 6/1 to win the Golden Glove in Qatar.
Emiliano Martinez @ 7/1
Martinez is the starting ‘keeper for Argentina going into Qatar's World Cup. The Argentina number one will be familiar to Premier League fans as he currently plays his club football for Aston Villa.
Argentina have been incredible defensively in recent times with only one goal conceded in their last five international matches. Despite Aston Villa’s struggles in the Premier League, the 30-year-old still ranks in the top half of the league in terms of save percentage.
With Argentina being second favourites to win this FIFA World Cup at 11/2, Martinez should be in with every chance of winning the World Cup Golden Glove award. Given Argentina’s chances of going deep in this World Cup and the quality of ‘keeper that Martinez is, 7/1 odds look generous here.
Hugo Lloris @ 8/1
Hugo Lloris is next in the betting to win the 2022 World Cup Golden Glove award. The longtime Tottenham goalkeeper will be starting for France for a fourth consecutive time at this year's World Cup.
With Lloris now 35 years of age there is a good chance that this is his last time representing his country at the tournament. The Spurs goalie ranks 7th in the Premier League this year in save percentage which shows that he is still one of the very best in the game.
France’s number one should have a good opportunity to compete for the Golden Glove with the team now being the joint second favourites for the tournament at 11/2. With the Spurs goalkeeper still performing at a high level and France expected to go far in Qatar, odds of 8/1 on Lloris being the Golden Glove winner look a tad big.
Jordan Pickford @ 9/1
The England starting goalkeeper for the Qatar World Cup is 28-year-old Jordan Pickford. The Everton ‘keeper has performed very well for England in their recent major tournament runs which include his displays at the 2018 World Cup and the 2020 Euros.
Pickford has also been in brilliant form for Everton in the Premier League this season. The shot-stopper has the highest save percentage in the entire league at 83.6%. England performed as one the best defensive teams in Europe during qualifying for this World Cup. They conceded only three goals in ten games played.
If England can make a run in this tournament then Pickford will be in with a good shout of being the Golden Glove winner at odds of 9/1.
