Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano Fight Preview
These fighters have history together in the ring when in 2022 they became the first women’s fight to headline the iconic Madison Square Garden and was described as the 'biggest women's fight of all time' in the build-up.
On that occasion Taylor took the split decision victory despite being visibly hurt in the fifth round, Taylor showed guts and determination in abundance to win on the scorecards (94–96, 97–93, and 96–93). The bout was subsequently named Fight of the Year by Sports Illustrated and Event of the Year by The Ring.
Talk of a “rematch” was touted immediately with promoter Eddie Hearne suggesting that the fight should be held in Croke Park as a homecoming fight for Taylor. However, unfortunately for her and the Irish people that didn’t transpire and Texas was chosen as the venue.
What The Fighters Have Said
Katie Taylor
Ahead of the fight Taylor is confident that she can get the victory over Serrano for the second time.
“The result is going to be the same. I'm very, very confident. We're both stepping into the ring very confident I'm sure. I believe I'm just a better fighter and the best of me always beats the best of Amanda. I'm just so glad that I made history with Amanda because I feel like nobody has done what she's done in women's boxing”.
Amanda Serrano
Serrano can see Saturday’s bout not being the last time they fight with a “trilogy” potentially on the cards.
“It has been a trilogy since the first fight…even before the first fight happened with her team, they knew something I didn’t know which means I will be winning this fight. To go in the ring with Katie is such an honour, we are both making the best money fighting each other. I think if she wants her belts back, we are going to have to go for a third fight.”
Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano Prediction
Taylor is known for her fast-paced, aggressive boxing style, but on a technical level specifically, she is different class to the vast majority if not all other professional boxers.
However, it should be noted at 38 she is over 2 years older than she was when she won via split decision in Madison Square Garden. It remains to be seen whether she has the physical prowess and speed that she had before, especially after being out of the ring for close to a year since she beat Chantelle Cameron by Majority Decision.
Serrano is no slouch in the ring either and is very much a complete fighter with the technical craft and boxing acumen to rival any boxer. However, unlike Taylor, she is the much harder hitter as demonstrated by 31 of her 47 victories coming via knockout fact as well as being two years younger than Taylor, if the latter shows any signs of ring rust we could be in for a Serrano win on Saturday.
As much as I’d love Taylor to be victorious, Serrano is younger, is the harder hitter and has boxed more recently making her an exceptionally priced bet at EVS in the Early Payout market regardless of who wins, but let’s hope it’s Taylor getting her hand risen at the end of the Saturday’s Showdown.
Best Bet: Amanda Serrano Early Payout @ 8/11
