Jake Paul v Mike Tyson Fight Preview

This bout was first scheduled for July 20 but was postponed after Tyson required medical attention on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles on May 26, and needed to receive medical attention he was advised to rest and not return to training for a few weeks.

Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) made his name on YouTube before becoming a pro boxer in 2020. In the beginning, he amassed a record of six straight victories, four by stoppage, mostly against former MMA fighters before losing to Tommy Fury in February 2023, but has won three straight fights since, including a first-round KO of Ryan Bourland in March.

Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) is the youngest-ever World Heavyweight Champion for his victory he defeated Trevor Berbick in 1986 by second-round TKO to win the WBC belt in Las Vegas. At the time he was only 20 though at 58 now his last pro bout was in 2005 when he lost in the 6th round to Kevin McBride, his last win was in 2003 when he defeated Clifford Etienne via KO in the first round.

What The Fighters Have Said

Jake Paul

The most illuminating quote from Jake Paul ahead of this fight occurred four years ago when he was asked about competing against “legends” of the sport.

“Look, I’m confident, but I’m not stupid,” Paul told TMZ in 2020. “I would not go into the ring with them. Nah, no chance.” At the time Paul had only fought in two pro bouts.

Mike Tyson

Ahead of the fight, Tyson was asked what he had learned about himself in preparation for Saturday.

"That I'm tougher than I believe I was," Tyson said in Dallas. "When I agreed to this fight, I started training, I said ‘What the f--- am I thinking?’ I finished the process, and now the fight's the party. All the hard work is done."

Jake Paul v Mike Tyson Prediction

Jake Paul has taken the boxing world by storm since his polarising introduction to professional boxing in 2020.

Whether he deserves to be in the position he is in is a contentious issue but given that he’s created the platform where he can do so I’d suggest that he is deservingly in the position because that’s where he’s put himself, He’s also shown genuine improvement across his opening ten bouts as a “novice” even scaring a legitimate boxer in Tommy Fury.

Tyson’s boxing pedigree speaks for itself and had this been a fight in his prime the question of who would win in this bout would be unquestionably Tyson and I’d even extend that to if he was 38 or 48 years old. However, Mother Time is undefeated and with Tyson now 58 the 29-year age gap on Saturday will be the largest in professional boxing history.

Paul is at his physical peak and the start of his boxing career while Tyson’s fitness and health has been called into question multiple times during the build-up. However, Tyson can still land a punch, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him earning a knockdown early in the fight before becoming gassed and eventually going on to lose.
