Ahead of the commencement of the Olympics this week, we’re previewing the different markets available for Great Britain's medal odds.

The jurisdiction of Great Britain is currently ranked third in the All-Time medal table when considering the Summer Olympics from 1896 to 2020 with a tally of 284 Gold Medals, 318 Silver Medals and 314 Bronze Medals for a total of 916 Medals.

Great Britain is currently projected to finish third in the Virtual medal table with a tally of 14 Gold Medals, 25 Silver Medals and 23 Bronze Medals for a total of 62, 6 ahead of France’s projected total but substantially smaller than China’s projected total of 87 and the USA’s of 123.

Over/Under Gold Medal Market

Under 18.5 Gold Medals – 8/15

Great Britain are most likely to win less than 18.5 Gold Medals at the Paris 2024 at odds of 8/15 this suggests that there is a 65.2% chance of their lowest Gold Medal tally since they had 9 at the 2004 Athens Games.

Great Britain are bringing a team of  327 athletes to the games this summer 174 women and 53 men across more sports than ever before. However, that team of athletes is their smallest since Beijing in 2008 where they finished with 51 medals in total including 19 Gold, 13 Silver and 23 Bronze medals.

At Tokyo 2020 they won 22 Gold Medals, at Rio in 2016 they had 27 and at London 2012 they had 29 Gold Medals which was a tally only bettered at the 1908 games in London again when they won a staggering 56 Gold Medals. However, due to their smaller team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, it means there is a lot more pressure on their athletes to perform.

Some of Great Britain’s most likely gold medalists are their Track Cycling teams (women), Men’s Team Pursuit and Bryony Page in Trampolining. Elsewhere BMX Biker Beth Shriever and pentathlete Joe Choong are the only athletes backed to defend their individual titles from Tokyo. Gold Medals are also expected in a variety of other sports including Equestrian, Rowing and Taekwondo.

Ahead of the games, Director of Performance for UK Sport Dr Kate Baker has claimed they’re the only nation not named USA or China that could win a minimum of 50 medals and they claim that 70 is well in their grasp. But will they land under 18.5 Gold Medals? That is the real question.  At odds of 8/15, I don’t feel it’s worth a flutter.

Over 18.5 Gold Medals – 11/8

Team GB are currently priced at 11/8  to win over 18.5 Gold Medals at Paris 2024 which suggests a 42.8% chance of the event occurring.

Those behind the Great Britain high-performance team would probably be disappointed if they didn’t land over 18.5 Gold Medals at Paris 2024. However, aside from the 1908 games where they had 56 Gold Medals, 2008 had 19 Gold Medals, and 29 Gold Medals in 2012. 27 Gold in 2016 and 22 in 2020 they never won more than 15 Gold Medals at a Summer Olympics.

However, despite some leading medal hopefuls for the Paris Games this summer, Britain will need some of their athletes who are projected to win Silver or Bronze to win Gold if they’re to earn over 18.5 Gold Medals. There is a star-studded list of athletes who are projected to win Silver but could very well win Gold including Katarina Johnson-Thompson in the Heptathlon,  Tom Daley & Noah Williams in the 10m Platform Synchro Diving and in several other events like Swimming, Sailing and a variety of Athletics events.

Despite bringing a smaller team to Paris, in no way is it any less talented and with several projected Silver medalists more than capable of landing Gold betting on Great Britain to win more than 18.5 Gold Medals at odds of 15/8 is something I’d consider backing!

Great Britain Most Medals Odds

While they’re set to bring a talented team to Paris 2024, they’re not considered very likely to win the Most Medals at odds of 50/1 suggesting a 2% chance of the event occurring.

Those odds put them behind the USA who are priced at 1/20  (95.2% likely) to win the most medals and China who are priced at 10/1 (9.1% likely) to land the most medals.

Great Britain Most Gold Medals Odds

It’s seen as even less likely that Great Britain will win the most Gold Medals at the Olympics with odds of 80/1 suggesting a slim 1.2% chance of an unprecedented level of success for Great Britain this summer.

Those odds put them behind the USA who are priced at 1/6  (85.7% likely) to win the most medals, China who are priced at 7/2 (22.2% likely) and even France at 50/1 (2% likely) to win the Most Gold Medals.
