Manchester City begin their Carabao Cup defence with a home clash against Championship side Norwich, who could be forgiven for feeling some trepidation about their trip to the Etihad.
Three of Norwich’s four defeats this season have come on the road, including a heartbreaking 4-3 loss at Middlesbrough on Saturday, while their last four trips to this venue have seen them beaten by a combined 19-1 scoreline.
If that wasn’t enough, the big-spending Citizens are heading into Thursday’s clash on the back of a five-game winning streak, including a 1-0 victory in the Manchester derby with only 10 men.
Enzo Maresca could well rotate his team for the cup but it is still likely to be a talent-packed line-up, with the likes of Allan, Iliman Ndiaye, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Mateo Kovacic in contention for starts. While a home win is anticipated, our opening Man City vs Norwich prediction is for the Premier League side to win both halves @ 11/10 in a BOYLE Sports Price Boost.

City should be brimming with confidence as they begin their quest to win a record-equalling 10th League Cup, seven of which have come in the last 12 years including last season when they beat Arsenal 2-0 in the final thanks to Nico O’Reilly’s brace.
City and Arsenal also met again in the Community Shield in August, with the Gunners running out convincing 3-0 winners, but Maresca’s men have quickly put that result behind them. They have not always been convincing but have still managed to claim successive wins over Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Coventry, Porto and most recently 0-1 at Old Trafford against Manchester United down a man for most of the game.

The three most recent of those results have seen City record clean sheets and while we expect Maresca to shuffle his pack for the cup, the Premier League side are 4/5 to record another shutout.
At the other end of the pitch, Erling Haaland is 3/10 to make it seven goals in his last five appearances but if the Norway hitman is rested ahead of Sunday’s visit of Sunderland, then decent options for first goalscorer include Antoine Semenyo (3/1), Rayan Cherki (15/2) or O’Reilly (11/1).
Norwich form guide
It has been either feast or famine for Norwich so far this season, with their nine fixtures producing five wins and four defeats. The Canaries got off to a flyer, netting twice in the opening seven minutes en route to a 4-1 Carabao Cup win over MK Dons, but they were brought back to earth by successive Championship defeats to West Brom and Millwall.
Things looked to be heading back in the right direction after that with four wins in five matches but Saturday’s loss at Middlesbrough, in which Ashley Phillips scored a stoppage-time winner for the hosts, has curtailed their momentum.
Mo Toure put Norwich ahead inside a minute at the Riverside with his fifth goal of the season, and the Australian striker, who scored 10 goals in 12 appearances for Norwich last term after joining at the start of the year, could be the biggest goal threat to Maresca’s men.
Toure is 10/3 to net at the Etihad while Mathias Kvistgaarden and Andre Brooks are 7/2 and 13/2 respectively to notch their fourth goals of the season. Jovon Makama is also 7/2 after scoring off the bench against Boro, the forward's first goal since January after recovering from injury.
The Canaries have netted 15 goals in seven games this season, including six in their last two, so both teams to score at 5/6 completes our Man City vs Norwich betting tips.
