In this post, we take a look at the Euro 2024 top goalscorer odds as we preview the chances of all the favourites and offer you some tips.

Euro 2024 could be one of the most exciting Golden Boot races at an International tournament in some time. At Euro 2020 Cristiano Ronaldo won his first-ever international Golden Boot with five goals having scored as many goals as Czechia’s Patrik Schick having played fewer minutes.

Kylian Mbappe – France @ 5/1

Ahead of Euro 2024 this summer, it’s no surprise that Mbappe leads the way as the market leader for Goalscorer at odds of 5/1. Those odds imply that he has a 16.7% chance of landing his second-ever International Tournament Golden Boot following his award at the 2022 World Cup.

While he will be coming off what is another perceived “disappointing season” with PSG following their Champions League Semi-Final defeat, he still ended the season with a Ligue 1 victory and a Trophée des Champions success. However, Mbappe has been consistently brilliant with 44 goals and 10 assists from 47 games in all competitions in his "swan song” before recently announcing his imminent departure from the club.

It seems like Real Madrid will be the destination this summer, but before that Mbappe will want to put their 2022 World Cup defeat behind them and land Euro 2024. He’s bonafide World Class and arguably the best player in the world, with his electric pace and finishing ability he certainly will be in contention for the Golden Boot. However, 5/1 is far too short for my liking.

Verdict? Avoid

Harry Kane – England @ 11/2

Another market leader for the Euro 2024 Top Goalscorer market is England’s All-Time International scorer Kane at odds of 11/2. Those odds imply he has a 15.4% chance of landing the Golden Boot this summer.

“Poor Harry Kane” having finally left Tottenham last summer, he made the move to Bayern Munich in search of trophies. However, it wasn’t to be and in an extraordinary turn of events, largely down to the performances domestically of Leverkusen and their Champions League Semi-Final exit to Real Madrid, he will have to wait at least another season to land his first trophy in club football. Kane can’t be blamed for that “failure” though with him contributing 44 goals and 12 assists from his first 45 games in all competitions.

While Bayern didn’t bring Kane success, England are similarly fancied to go close to a trophy this summer and with an International record of 62 goals from 85 caps, he will be their main man this summer. At Euro 2020 he scored 4 times as they reached the final, but I think he is far too short at 11/2 to be backing.

Verdict? Avoid.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Portugal @ 12/1

“One Last Dance” for Ronaldo with Portugal? The Portuguese record Goalscorer can be gotten at 12/1. Those odds imply he has a 7.7% chance of retaining his Euro 2020 prize.

While certainly in the “twilight” of his career Ronaldo (39) remains very much an active threat in front of goal at both club and international level. During the 23/24 season, he has scored 42 goals and assisted 12 times from 41 matches, one could criticise the level he is playing at but he can also only play the teams he comes up against. In 2023 for Portugal, he scored 10 goals in 9 matches and while he is yet to score from his 1 appearance in 2024, you’d be foolish to count him out this summer.

Portugal head into the tournament with a brilliant qualifying record and a star-studded squad even if some now play their club football in the Saudi League. Ronaldo has won Euro 2016 and the 2018/19 Nations League with Portugal but would love to add another trophy to his cabinet.

If Portugal go far, Ronaldo is certain to score a few. But I don’t think he will land the major prize on this occasion.

Verdict? Avoid

Others?

Bellingham has performed heroics all season with Real Madrid and truly is world-class, he is currently a 14/1 chance to land the top Goalscorer prize.

Giroud is another priced at 14/1 and given his brilliant record for France with 57 goals in 131 caps, he could be another value bet.

Other interesting choices are Havertz (Germany) and Ramos (Portugal) both at 33/1 or Fernandes also for Portugal at 50/1.

My Pick

Scott McTominay – 250/1

Okay… Hear me out Scott McTominay might be a divisive player at Man United but in my opinion, he is one the most intensely underrated footballers around and his performances with Scotland have been colossal since making his debut back in 2018.

McTominay’s box-crashing ability and his knack for scoring goals has come alive in the last 12 months in 23/24 for United he has 10 goals and 3 assists. That form is even stronger with Scotland in 2023 he scored 7 goals from 10 appearances for his country meaning only Lukaku (14), Ronaldo (10), Mbappe (9) and Kane (8) scored more than his 7 strikes.

While Scotland are not guaranteed to get out of their group, I’m expecting them to shock a few at the tournament and with the added chance of only potentially needing to finish 3rd to reach the knockout stages, I think McTominay has a fantastic each-way chance at odds of 250/1,

His importance for Scotland cannot be questioned and he’s shown with his record during qualifying his tactical fit in this Scottish side gets the best out of him as a Goalscorer. Furthermore, a tally of 4 goals could get him 2nd in the top-scorers chart which is very plausible.
