EFL Championship Favourites
Leicester
The favourite to land the 23/24 Championship title in the final few rounds of fixtures in the next two weeks is Leicester at odds of 1/16. Those odds imply they have a 94.1% chance of success in the coming weeks after being priced at 5/1 before the season started.
It’s been quite a few years for the club, having avoided relegation to the Championship by the skin of their teeth in the 14/15 season. They’d go on to sensationally win the Premier League the following season in 15/16 and become FA Cup winners 20/21 before finally being shockingly relegated to the Championship last season when they finished 18th.
Ahead of the Championship season, plenty predicted Leicester to bounce back at the first time of asking this year, with many arguing despite the departures of Maddison, Tielemans, and Barnes that they still would have won one of the strongest squads assembled in the league's history and signing the likes of Winks, Coady and Mavididi proved it to be true. Furthermore, they appointed Enzo Maresca who is a former assistant to Pep Guardiola to lead the charge.
Leicester have duly delivered, currently top of the Championship with 94 points from 44 matches, 4 clear of Leeds. They face Preston and Blackburn in the coming weeks and 2 wins would land them the Championship title.
Promotion is a virtual certainty for the Foxes at this stage with them priced up at 1/200 to be playing Premier League football next season.
Ipswich
The second favourite for the 23/24 Championship title is Ipswich at odds of 10/1 suggesting they have a 9.1% chance of winning the Championship.
No matter what happens in the coming weeks, Ipswich, by virtue of being even in contention for Premier League promotion, is the story of the season in the league. Since the appointment of former Man United Coach and Northern Irishman Kieran McKenna in December 2021 they’ve been on a huge upward trend. In his first full season at the club, he has guided them to Championship promotion last year after finishing 2nd on 98 points, 3 behind league winners Plymouth.
Ahead of the 23/24 Championship season, plenty figured the financial disparity between themselves and those collecting parachute payments in the league would mean they’d struggle to stay in the league. However, they’ve made a mockery of that claim with a few additions like Jack Taylor, George Hirst and Axel Tuanazebe helping assist them to an 89-point total from 43 matches.
With Hull, Coventry and Huddersfield to play, the title could be coming down Portman Road yet and with the playoffs to fall back on it’s no surprise they’re 8/15 To Be Promoted.
Leeds
The 3rd favourite for the 23/24 Championship title is Leeds at odds of 14/1. Those odds imply they have a 6.7% chance of winning the Championship.
Leeds are another side who were relegated from the Premier League last season following their disappointing 19th-place finish. That resigned them to Championship football for the first time since their 2019/20 triumph under Marcelo Bielsa where they dazzled the league with a 93-point total, coming ten points clear of second-placed West Brom.
Interestingly, ahead of the season, unlike Leicester there was more of a Championship squad feeling about the club last year and while that left them relegated it meant they were unlikely to have a similar level of squad upheaval. That duly transpired (except for Adams heading to Bournemouth) they kept players like James, Gnonto and Bamford while signing the likes of Ampadu and Byram. Head Coach Daniel Farke was also brought in to guide them to promotion.
It's been a positive season for the club and with QPR and Southampton to play a positive result in both games could make them likely candidates at 1/3 to be promoted.
