The Rose of Tralee is fast approaching and we are taking a look at Derry Rose odds of winning the event.

Rose of Tralee – Derry Rose Odds

County Derry could have its first-ever winner of the Rose of Tralee if the latest odds are anything to go by after BoyleSports made Darcy Taylor the new favourite to wear the winner’s sash. The Derry Rose is now the 11/4 favourite to be the 2024 Rose of Tralee.

Who is Derry Rose Darcy Taylor?

Final preparations are underway ahead of the annual festival kicking off this Friday and the Bellaghy girl, who works for BBC Radio Foyle, will be no stranger to the lights and cameras in the Dome with a Masters in Broadcast Media and Production on her CV.

She has experience working on well-known TV programmes such as Rare Breed, Saol Na Feirme and Rip Off Britain. On her Rose of Tralee profile, Darcy describes herself as a person ‘particularly interested in working with women who have experienced conflict in war and telling their stories.’

Darcy’s original odds of 5/1 have now been trimmed to 11/4 making her the frontrunner for the crown. Her hobbies include sewing, reading, and watching documentaries.

Donegal Rose Niamh Shelvin

A strong challenge from the northwest is boosted by Donegal Rose Niamh Shevlin, one half of the world-champion Irish dancing duo the Shevlin twins. She is also prominent in the betting at 13/2.

Kerry Rose Emer Dineen

Kerry local Emer Dineen is rated a serious contender as 4/1 second favourite. It has been 60 years since Tralee Rose Margaret O’Keeffe scored a local victory in the annual event, but the 23-year-old Radiographer heads to the Dome later this week with an impressive resumé which includes experience as a lifeguard in her home village of Castlegregory and nearby Ballyheigue.

Galway Rose Deirdre Jennings

Galway Rose Deirdre Jennings is tasked with raising spirits in her home county after its senior camogie team completed an unwanted hat-trick on Sunday when losing to Cork in the All-Ireland Final. That added to Galway's defeats in the men’s and ladies senior football finals, but Deirdre will have to overcome outside odds of 50/1 to break the hoodoo.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:

“The dust may be finally settling on Armagh’s Sam Maguire celebrations, but a rich summer for Ulster continued with Daniel Wiffen and Rhys McClenaghan bringing Olympic gold medals back from Paris. Now Derry Rose Darcy Taylor is well fancied to get in on the act and we have to make her favourite as the final countdown begins.”
