Heatwave fever grips as Ireland sizzles
The Irish heatwave has sent temperatures and betting interest soaring this week, with punters now bracing themselves for a potential record-breaker.
Met Éireann has warned that the country’s all-time temperature record could be scorched as early as this week, with BOYLE Sports offering odds of just 7/4 for the history books to be rewritten by the end of Thursday.
The unprecedented heat has already sparked a surge in speculation, with punters increasingly convinced that Ireland’s long-standing record of 33.3°C, set at Kilkenny Castle in 1887, is living on borrowed time.
And even if the milestone survives this week’s blistering conditions, BOYLE Sports makes it odds-on at 10/11 that a new national temperature high will be set at any time during 2026.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“The heatwave has really captured the public’s attention and punters are very hot on the prospect of Thursday setting an all-time record. The 33.3°C mark looks more vulnerable by the day, so needless to say we’re sweating in more ways than one.”
