Two familiar sports are expected to provide Great Britain with their best hopes of striking gold in Milan and Cortina, according to the Winter Olympics 2026 odds. Judging by the number of podium places won on World Cup circuits this season, Team GB should skate past their current record of five medals won at consecutive Games in Sochi and Pyeongchang.
The unique degree of jeopardy in winter sports makes securing top honours far from certain, but here are Britain’s big chances of success:
Curling Odds
More Curling Glory On The Cards?
Curling has been a major source of excitement for Team GB supporters, who roared on Rhona Martin’s team to victory in Salt Lake City in 2002 and Eve Muirhead’s triumphant squad in Beijing four years ago. Great Britain are 80/1 outsiders for the women’s event this time around, but EVS favourites to prevail in the men’s tournament for the first time since 1924.
Bruce Mouat’s men’s rink rebounded to top the world rankings after agonisingly having to settle for silver in Beijing. He also tops the standings in the mixed doubles event alongside his long-term playing partner and Beijing gold medallist Jennifer Dodds, with that pair quoted at 9/2 to win gold and 4/5 to pick up a medal of any colour.
Skeleton Odds
Skeleton Squad Have Much To Live Up To
Amy Williams opened the floodgates by claiming skeleton gold at the 2010 Vancouver Games, and Lizzy Yarnold followed up with a Sochi and Pyeongchang double. Great Britain dominated the men’s World Cup circuit this season, with Matt Weston and Marcus Wyatt carving up all seven race wins between them. Weston will head to Italy as arguably the hottest favourite in British Winter Olympic history after winning five of those events and wrapping up a third consecutive overall world crown. The 28-year-old admits he contemplated retirement after a poor showing in China four years ago, but has bounced back from the tough lessons learned there.
He declared: “I’m convinced one of the reasons we are in this position now is because it went so badly in Beijing.“It meant we had to reset, throw the rulebook out of the window and restart. And ever since then, it’s just been one amazing rollercoaster.” In addition, Tabitha Stoecker won two silver medals in the women’s event this season and finished third overall. Wyatt and Stoecker also combined to win two of four races in the mixed team event, which will make its debut at these Games.
Snowboarding Odds
Snowboarding Team Ready To Step Up
Two bronze medals have been achieved in the various snowboarding disciplines, but there could be an improvement on that this year. Many top contenders crash and burn in the high-octane freestyle categories, but Britain boasts a series of chances, with Mia Brookes (snowboard Big Air), Kirsty Muir (ski Big Air and slopestyle), and Zoe Atkin (ski halfpipe) all clinching World Cup medals this season.
In addition, snowboard-cross star Charlotte Bankes has won both individual and team World Cup races, the latter alongside team-mate Huw Nightingale.
Figure Skating Odds
Figure Skating Duo Bid To Emulate Torvill And Dean
Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson stand a strong chance of claiming Britain’s first figure skating medal since Torvill and Dean. Their wildly popular routines, involving snatches of the Spice Girls and the Proclaimers, have thrust them into realistic contention.
However, a relatively disappointing bronze medal in January’s European Championships provided a timely reality check.
