Tiger Woods is seeing more bets than Rory McIlroy to win a major this year as the latter begins his 2019 campaign at this week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.

Woods was initially installed as a 3/1 shot to win hs 15th major championship in 2019, but has now been cut ino 5/2, with McIlroy a less popular selection with golf punters at 7/2. McIlroy hasn’t won a major since the 2014 USPGA Championship but does face the prospect of a home soil British Open in July at Royal Portrush.

The Holywood man, who is set to reduce European Tour commitments to play more in America, is a 5/1 not to register a single victory in 2019.

The more optimistic can avail of 125/1 that he finishes in the top five in all four of golf’s headline events in 2019.""

Despite a defeat in September’s Ryder Cup, the Americans were only denied a clean sweep of major victories by Francesco Molinari’s Open win at Carnoustie last year and it’s just a 7/1 chance that the stateside golfers dominate again by winning The Masters, USPGA, US Open and British Open this year.
