Speaking exclusively with BoyleSports , Manchester United legend Wes Brown has argued that replacing Bruno Fernandes this summer would be impossible.
The five-time Premier League winner has given his thoughts on potential incomings and whether Simons or Mbuemo could cut their cloth at Man United. He also talks about the void of leaders in the dressing room at the club as well as the long-term potential of their “youth”.
Bruno To Saudi This Summer?
I would be absolutely devastated to see Bruno Fernandes move to Saudi, Manchester United would be losing their best player, although it would involve a huge fee going the other way.
It comes down to both Bruno and then the club, he might want to go in order to secure the future for himself and his family, you can’t fault what he has done for Manchester United, he has been the best player for four or five years now. It would be a big blow for United, but Bruno deserves to make his own choice.
Replacing Bruno Is “Impossible”
If Manchester United were to receive £100million for Bruno Fernandes, that would be brilliant. When you look at his age and him turning 31 in September, £100million is a huge amount of money and is too much to turn down.
It will still be up to Bruno, I think United fans would understand if he decided to leave, he has given everything for the club. We will have to wait and see, how do you replace Bruno? I think it’s impossible in all honesty.
Cunha Captain?
The obvious choice to replace Bruno Fernandes as captain would be to give it back to Harry Maguire, but there is a question over his game time.
Other options are Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw but again fitness is an issue, Matheus Cunha could be an outside candidate but of course, that is tricky given he has only just joined the club. There isn’t an obvious choice which would make things tricky, it will be another downside to selling Fernandes this summer.
Bellingham Should Stay At Sunderland!
Jobe Bellingham should stay at Sunderland. He doesn’t have Premier League experience yet and is still learning his trade. He is getting better and better, and the top clubs will be interested, but he needs to ensure he gets game time, and he has that at Sunderland.
If United do come in there will be some big decisions to make, it would be hard to turn down for Sunderland if there is a big fee, but I think he should stay and show everybody what he is capable of in the Premier League with Sunderland first.
Simons To Man United?
Xavi Simons is the sort of player that can have a big impact at Manchester United, he is an exciting player that gets his teams into good positions. He looks to make things happen and get teams on the back foot, United need players like that because they have struggled going forward and creating chances.
They also need to be able to rest young players like Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho, when fit they play a lot of games so United do need depth, Simons could be the player they’re looking for.
Mbeumo No-Brainer
Signing Bryan Mbeumo would be a no-brainer for Manchester United, we know exactly what he can do. When you check the scores, he always seems to have got a goal or an assist.
He is what United need, a player who is unpredictable and can look impossible to defend against at times, he works hard and always has his say on games. He has been Brentford’s best player for a few years now and he would be an amazing signing for United.
Top Defensive Talents
I ’ve watched Ayden Heaven at every opportunity, and I don't think he's really put a foot wrong yet, even though he’s probably not even fully grown. When I’ve seen him play he has done everything right and looks to do it with ease, he can tackle and can block, and the manager seems to really like him.
He’s younger than Leny Yoro who himself is a very young player, Yoro is ahead of him at the moment, but I really like Heaven and how Amorim has handled him. The manager will be looking at him thinking that in one or two years he can be a key part of his team, he could be top class. He needs to keep his feet on the ground for now and be patient.
He could keep growing until he is 21 and be a top player if he puts the graft in, he could develop into a really special player given how well he has done for his age. So far, he hasn’t put a foot wrong.”
Mainoo Must Stay!
Man Utd need to avoid their Scott McTominay mistake with Kobbie Mainoo. With Scott, I always thought he should’ve been played further forward because although he is a big lad, he has so much energy and that was wasted when he was a holding midfielder.
I just hope that Ruben Amorim tries Mainoo out in a few different positions because he is so good on the ball and technically gifted.
I'm sure he'll be disappointed he's not played as much this season, I just hope he gets more game time and can prove to the manager what he can do. He is an England international for a reason and can be a big success for United for years to come.
Could McTominay Return?
It would be great to see Scott McTominay back at Man Utd, but that won't happen for a while now. I think once you leave it's very difficult to come back, there's not many that have done it.
It’s always sad to see academy players leave but for Scott, it’s probably the best thing that could’ve happened for him.
