Wales vs Scotland Prediction & Tips: Are Scotland Being Overrated?

Wales return to the Principality Stadium searching for stability after back‑to‑back heavy defeats, while Scotland arrive in Cardiff buoyed by their Calcutta Cup triumph.

Wales have been bullied into submission by England and France but we’re hoping they put up more of a fight when facing Scotland in Cardiff.

The Scots did us a big favour when securing a superb Calcutta Cup success last weekend but don’t quite have the power up front to totally dominate a game like this.

Wales vs Scotland Prediction – Six Nations 2026

We feel Evens for the hosts with 18 points start on the main handicap market is tempting enough to be our first Wales vs Scotland prediction.

Wales were never at the races when routed 48-7 by England at Twickenham and were blown away early on by France in last Sunday’s 54-12 drubbing at Principality Stadium.

That was a 13th straight Six Nations loss and a 23rd defeat in 25 Test matches, with just a couple of wins over Japan providing some respite during a horrible run of results.

It wasn’t all bad against Les Bleus, though,  with tries from Rhys Carre and Mason Grady offering up a bit of comfort.

Dragons back-rower Aaron Wainwright said: “We spoke in the changing room afterwards, just what a great chance it’s going to be for us to come out here next week and deliver something better.

“If we can look to the future, look to next week and start to put those building blocks in place, the bigger picture will take care of itself.”

If Wales can stay positive, this has all the makings of another open contest between two teams who like to throw the ball around.

Looking at the Wales vs Scotland odds, we feel 8/5 for the hosts to score over 20.5 points in this fixture for the third straight time is fair value.

Scotland Form Guide

Having got bogged down in the Rome rain when beaten 18-15 by Italy, Scotland showed their true potential when putting England to the sword at Murrayfield, prevailing 31-20.

Ending England’s 12-game winning streak with their biggest victory over the Auld Enemy since 2018 eased the pressure on head coach Gregor Townsend, who hailed the performance as “tremendous”.

However, that stirring triumph did come at a cost, with key trio Jamie Ritchie, Jamie Dobie and Jack Dempsey picking up injuries that could rule them out for the rest of this tournament.

Scotland have also often suffered a dip in form immediately after raising their game to claim wins over England, subsequently losing to Wales in 2021 and 2022 and Italy in 2024.

They should still have enough in hand to prevail on this occasion, but we’re going with 11/2 for the margin to be between 11 to 15 points in our Wales vs Scotland betting tips.

Wales vs Scotland Head-to-Head

Since competing for the Doddie Weir Cup in 2018, Wales prevailed in four of the first five meetings.

However, Scotland have since hit back with a hat-trick of victories, winning twice at Murrayfield and once in Cardiff, although the last two triumphs have been hard-fought 27-26 and 35-29 wins.

Betting Tips

Wales vs Scotland Betting Tips

Wales +18 @ Evens

With the handicap stretching to 18 points, the hosts should remain competitive enough at home to stay inside that margin, particularly if Scotland’s intensity dips after last week’s emotional win.

Wales Over 20.5 Points @ 8/5

Recent meetings in Cardiff have produced open contests, and Wales have crossed 20 points in successive clashes against Scotland on home soil.

Winning Margin 11-15 Points @ 11/2

If Scotland control territory but Wales resist a collapse, the 11–15 winning band fits the likely script of a competitive yet ultimately decisive away victory.
