Formula 1 Finish Line

Lando Norris still has plenty of time to overhaul McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri in the Formula One drivers' championship and is taken to strike a significant blow in Austin in our United States Grand Prix predictions.

The Briton has gone four races without a win since rattling off mid-season form figures of 1-1-2-1, but still closed the gap on Piastri in Singapore when they were third and fourth respectively.

He is 22 points adrift in the title race, but showed his determination to put individual success above all else when banging wheels with the Australian early on at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Long straights in Texas should allow McLaren to reassert their authority and Norris just looks hungrier than Piastri at this stage, so he appeals at 2/1 in the United States Grand Prix odds .

Verstappen's Fear

Verstappen Fears McLaren Pace

Max Verstappen may have missed out on completing a hat-trick of race victories when second to George Russell in Singapore, but he again finished ahead of both McLaren drivers.

Verstappen is still a longshot to land a fifth drivers’ championship, as he trails Piastri by 63 points and is 41 adrift of Norris, but he is clearly in fine spirits.

Recent wins in Italy and Azerbaijan have to be respected but the Dutchman did admit that Singapore was more of a struggle, in terms of technical aspects and sheer pace.

Verstappen told the F1 website: "Even if the balance would have been perfect, I think second was still the best possible, because you can’t pass around here.

"As you could see, I think for more than an hour I had Lando behind me, and I think he was clearly faster, but you can’t pass."

Back-to-Back Wins For Russell?

Russell Eyeing Back-to-Back Wins

Verstappen is 2/1 joint-favourite in Austin, while Russell is 12/1 to follow up his faultless display in Singapore with a third victory of 2025 , having also come out on top in Canada.

After starting on pole, Russell crossed the line a commanding 5.4 seconds clear of Verstappen, who finished just six tenths ahead of Norris, with Piastri two seconds further back.

The Mercedes driver is obviously maturing well and commented: "A couple of years ago, I was driving a bit more tense and probably over-pushing in circumstances when I shouldn't have been.

"Now I just feel much more relaxed. It just felt like another race. I knew I had a chance to win, and I felt comfortable with that.”

However, he also acknowledged the threat of Norris, adding: "Realistically, Lando looked incredibly fast. He was within a second of Max the whole race. And around this circuit, that's not easy."
