Tyrone’s Form

Tyrone will be playing their league football in Division 1 next year; their 4th place mid-table finish this year with a record of four wins and three defeats from their seven matches.

In their league meeting with Monaghan back in March they won away with the scoring 0-13 to their 2-15. Tyrone scored 113 points in the league which was an average of 16.14 points per match that was only bettered by Mayo’s 126 points which was an average of 18 points per match.

However, defensively they were very open at the back with their 110 points conceded an average of 15.7 per match the third worst in the league after Donegal conceding 117 points and their opponents Monaghan’s total of 119.

Monaghan’s Form

Monaghan will also play their football in Division 1 next season after narrowly avoiding relegation in the final round of league fixtures after defeating Mayo to a scoreline of 0-14 to 2-14 away from home.

Monaghan’s record in the league was three wins and four defeats in their seven matches one of which came at home to Tyrone 0-13 to their 2-15 earlier in the league campaign. Monaghan points total of 109 points an average of 15.57 points per match which is only less than today’s opponents Tyrone’s total of 113 and Mayo’s total of 126 points.

Monaghan had a poor defence though their 119 points conceded an average of 17 points per match was the worst in the league.

Key Players To Watch

Darren McCurry

The Right corner-forward was Tyrone’s main man during the league campaign and expect that to continue on Sunday.

His league tally of 0-33 in seven matches was the highest average points haul of the top-scorers averaging 4.71 points per match only Mayo’s Ryan O’Donoghue who scored 2-30 an average of 4.50 across his eight matches scored more in total.

Conor McManus

The Monaghan Maestro who has been playing county football since 2007 and has 2 Ulster titles and 3 All-Stars is still going strong despite turning 36 next November.

In the league campaign he scored 1-13 across his five matches an average of 3.20 points per match which was good enough to be the fifth best average amongst the top-scorers in the division proving there’s life in the old dog  yet!
