The announcement of Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Ireland has sparked a range of betting as speculation begins on what the President’s itinerary for his visit will involve.
A spokesperson for the Department of the Taoiseach announced last Friday that Trump would stop in Ireland for a ‘brief visit’ either on his way to, or from, the Armistice commemorations in Paris in November.
Trump’s last visit to Irish shores involved a stop at his golf resort at Doonbeg in County Clare and the Commander-In-Chief was made an Even money shot by us to play a round of golf there during his upcoming visit as bet requests started to flood in after the announcement.
Irish Labour leader Brendan Howlin vowed at the weekend that his party would oppose the visit and with plans of protests already being mooted, the trip is 5/1 not to go ahead at all.
The President has endured a tumultuous fortnight in the White House after his former lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to violating campaign finance laws, supposedly at the direction of Trump himself. Trump is only a 10/1 shot to be impeached before his trip to Ireland even happens.
While the exact date and itinerary for the visit are yet to be revealed, Trump is 3/1 to include a visit to Northern Ireland on his schedule before jetting off.
It has been rumoured that his arrival will coincide with the first day in office for the newly elected President of Ireland on November 12th, but Michael D Higgins is 1/6 to still be in place to greet his American counterpart by winning the Election at the end of October.
