Triumph Hurdle Preview

When is the Triumph Hurdle?

The Triumph Hurdle is set to take place at 13:30 on Friday at Cheltenham.

Triumph Hurdle Distance

The race is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 2 miles and 1 furlong (2 miles and 179 yards, or 3,382 metres), and during its running there are eight hurdles to be jumped.

Triumph Hurdle Favourite

The favourite to win the 2024 Triumph Hurdle is Majborough at odds of 7/2. The Willie Mullins-trained horse will be ridden by Mark Walsh.

Nicky Henderson's Sir Gino had been the race favourite until he was pulled out by Nicky Henderson due to concerns about the welfare of all of Henderson's horses.

Triumph Hurdle Betting

As mentioned above, Sir Gino is the market leader for the team of Nicky Henderson, Nico de Boinville and Mrs J Donnelly. Next in the betting is Majborough at 3/1 for W P Mullins who has 1 victory and 1 third place from two races and Salvator Mundi at 9/2 for W P Mullins. Bar 5/1.

Triumph Hurdle Tips

* Sir Gino has since been ruled out of running in the Triumph Hurdle as a non-runner.

Tony Keenan: I was impressed with Kargese at Leopardstown. I thought Storm Heart got a real weird ride that day, nearly like Paul Townend was worried about his jumping and maybe David [Casey] mightn’t want to get into that… There’s no reason why one of the Irish horses won’t go and improve again. I’d much rather have a few bob each way on her than just back Sir Gino at 8/11, just wouldn’t be my cup of tea.

Phil Anderson : Sir Gino is Ground adaptable and won a trial here in January by 10 lengths. One of the stronger favourites on the week.

David Casey : “ Kargese is a good mare and won well the last day. She was a little unlucky at Christmas, but I wouldn’t be surprised if our three that finished behind her at the Dublin Racing Festival improved past her here. But from what I saw at Cheltenham the last day, it’s Sir Gino’s to lose. He looks the standout.

Tip: Kargese

Triumph Hurdle Betting Trends

Ahead of the Triumph Hurdle, 5 of the last 10 winners were undefeated over hurdles (2 had just run once).

6 winners had won Graded races and 3 winners had raced on the Flat in Britain, Ireland or France and all had recorded an RPR of at least 77.

Since the introduction of the Fred Winter Hurdle in 2005, 16 of the 19 winners have had an SP of 10-1 or shorter.

Smart View Prediction

The Smart View tool, which you can find on the BoyleSports Cheltenham Hub, has given Kargese the highest score of the runners in this race. Kargese achieved a Smart View score of 97% with top marks awarded for her ability, trainer, and distance while achieving ‘good’ results in the jumping, jockey, and ground.

Storm Heart came in 2nd with a Smart View score of 95% while Willie Mullins-trained Majborough is 3rd on 92%.
