Tottenham v Arsenal Preview
Tottenham’s Form
Ange Postecoglou did a decent job in his first season at Tottenham taking them from 8th to 5th but in a sense due to them being eliminated from both cup competitions early, it was still a typically Tottenham-type season in the end even if it was two off the Champions League places. During the off-season, they made some interesting acquisitions with Solanke, Grey and Odobert all joining while retaining their core squad.
Interestingly, results have been objectively average to start their season with four points from three league games. The club's overall performances seem to be stronger with their Expected Points position of 5.65 only less than Man City (6.96) and Liverpool (7.50). Per Understat their recent 2-1 loss to Newcastle was a little unlucky with the XG scoreline 1.59 to 1.63 a draw would have been a fairer result.
Tottenham are a club who are always dangerous and they do have some brilliant players, but yet they never seem to threaten the top and are judged by a far lower standard than other top sides.

Arsenal’s Form
Arsenal were trophyless last season unless you count the Community Shield. Thus, while it’s clear that they’ve progressed under Mikel Arteta I think question marks remain still on whether he has the acumen to emulate former Liverpool manager Klopp in dethroning the City dominance this season.
While they’ve accumulated seven points from their opening three games, their Expected Points total has them at 5.46 suggesting a slight underperformance despite their points tally. Their recent 1-1 draw was unlucky though with a cumulative XG of 2.42 from their 11 shots compared to Brighton’s 1.62 from 22 shots.
While their recent draw to Brighton wasn’t ideal, they’re a solid side and that could still be a decent point come the end of the season. However, Tottenham will present an even different challenge on Sunday.

Key Players To Watch
Destiny Udogie – Tottenham
The Italian International is a throwback left-back who is consistently getting forward and taking on defenders, demonstrated by his 2.68 Attacking Penalty Touches Per 90 which puts him in the 93rd percentile. He’s also a safe yet progressive passer with a completion rate of 85.6% and 5.91 Progressive Passes which is in the 91 st and 92 nd percentile for all fullbacks.
Udogie is also a strong defender though, with great defensive awareness to read the play and make interceptions and has great recovery pace in the tackle too.
Kai Havertz – Arsenal
Arguably Arsenal’s most underrated player, despite being the club's third-highest transfer fee when he signed from Chelsea in June 2023. Last season he scored 14 goals and provided 7 assists in 51 games, but he offers far more than just output. Havertz also offers great endeavour and defence from the front, which is critical to Arsenal’s style of play.
Tottenham v Arsenal Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Arsenal
This is a very difficult game to call as anything can happen in a North London Derby but fireworks are always guaranteed! Tottenham statistically have arguably outperformed Arsenal in the first three games though the table says differently.
Think this will be a very tight affair and we could see a few goals, but I’ve more confidence in Arsenal right now to show up in the bigger games than Tottenham are.
Best Bet: Draw +1 @ 16/5
