Who are the best players missing Euro 2024? That’s the question that we answer in this post as we count down the top 5 missing this summer’s biggest tournament.
These top players may be absent from this Euros due to injury, their country not qualifying or not being selected. Without further ado, here are the top 5 footballers we won’t be seeing at Euro 2024.
Top 5 Players Missing Euro 2024
5. Marcus Rashford – England
This may be somewhat controversial but I believe the 5th best player missing Euro 2024 is Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford. The 26-year-old is coming off a disappointing season by his standards with his club (that culminated in an FA Cup success). His record of 8 goals and 5 assists in 43 matches shows the standards most people expect of him are sky-high after last season when he scored 30 times and assisted on 10 occasions in 56 games in all competitions.
His poor form this season can be attributed to a multitude of factors; injury, attitude, tiredness etc. However, when on form there are few players on his level. Since making his debut with England in 2016 he has scored 17 times from 60 appearances.
4. Alexander Isak – Sweden
The fourth-best player missing Euro 2024 is Newcastle Striker Alexander Isak. The Swedish international is coming off an impressive season with Newcastle where he scored 25 goals and assisted 2 in 40 matches across all competitions.
Isak has always been highly regarded in Sweden, being a regular for their underage sides before making his senior debut back in 2017. He became the youngest goalscorer for the senior team in just his second game.
Isak has since made 45 appearances and scored 11 times for his country. Sweden are consistent qualifiers for international tournaments so it likely won’t be long before the man Transfermarkt rate at €75.00m is back at one.
3. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – Georgia
The third-best player missing Euro 2024 is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The 23-year-old Georgian and Napoli winger looks to be one of the brightest prospects the country has had in some time. For Napoli this season he scored 11 Goals and provided 9 Assists in 45 matches in all competitions.
Khvicha since making his debut with Georgia back in 2019 has scored 15 times in 29 appearances for his country. However, unlike the two before him who are very likely to reach international tournaments in the future, Georgia have never qualified for a World Cup or European Championship. That means he will need to be the man to lift his country to new heights if he is to have success on the international stage.
Khvicha is valued at €80.00m per Transfermarkt.
2. Martin Odegaard – Norway
The second best player to miss Euro 2024 is another Norwegian. Martin Odegaard is a midfield magician who plays his club football with Arsenal.
The 25-year-old is coming off a season with his club where he scored 11 goals and recorded 11 assists across 48 Games in all competitions. Despite some promising performances, Arsenal’s sole success came in the FA Community Shield at the beginning of the season.
Odegaard has represented his nation Norway 58 times since making his international debut on August 19th 2014 at the age of 15 years and 253 days. That made him the youngest player in the history of the National Team beating the previous record which was Tormod Kjellsen, who was 15 years and 351 days on his debut in 1910. Per Transfermarkt Martin Odegaard is valued at €110.00m.
1. Erling Haaland – Norway
The best player missing Euro 2024 is Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. The 23-year-old is coming off a season of 38 Goals and 6 Assists across 45 games in a season where his club were Premier League winners, UEFA Super Cup Champions, and FIFA World Cup winners.
His record with Norway is equally as impressive with a phenomenal 30 goals from his 32 appearances for his national team. The world-class striker is expected to challenge for future Ballon d’Or awards and while he misses out on this tournament I’m sure there will be plenty of more international tournaments for him in the future.
Erling Haaland is valued at €180.00m per Transfermarkt which makes him the joint highest-valued player in the world alongside England’s Jude Bellingham.
