2025 Open Championship Favourite

Scottie Scheffler is the 2025 Open Championship favourite at odds of 4/1. It is, of course, no surprise to see Scheffler at the top of the betting market given his form and recent performances in major championships. The Texan is a 3-time major champion but has yet to get his hands on the Claret Jug. He has 2 top 10 finishes in 4 appearances at this tournament and is primed to compete again at Royal Portrush.

Leading Contenders

Home favourite Rory McIlroy is the second favourite for The Open 2025 at 6/1. The Northern Ireland native has won the Open Championship on one occasion and has been consistent at this tournament with 7 top 10s from 15 appearances. Last time out, however, McIlroy missed the cut at Royal Troon despite being one of the tournament favourites. This time around, he will expect to be at the business end of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon.

Third in the Open Championship betting is Jon Rahm, who is a 10/1 chance for Open glory. The Spaniard is a 2-time major champion and looks to be close to recapturing his best form with top-10s in the PGA Championship and US Open heading into this major. Rahm’s case is bolstered by the fact that he is a links specialist with two Irish Open wins and 3 top-10s in his last 4 Open Championship outings. With Rahm, it feels like a case of when he will lift the Claret Jug and not if.

Irish Contenders and Local Interest

Aside from Rory McIlroy, who will be leading the home charge at this tournament, there are plenty of local players worth following at Royal Portrush.

Tom McKibbin will be a popular player to follow as the Northern Irishman is a member of Portrush. His course knowledge will be sure to give him every chance of outperforming expectations this week on Dunluce Links.

Another Northern Irishman in the field is Darren Clarke who won this tournament in 2011 at Royal St Georges. Clarke will surely find it tough to contend at the top of this leaderboard; despite this, he will attract big galleries.

Ireland’s Padraig Harrington is a man who still believes that he can compete at the top end of major championships. Harrington is coming off a recent US Senior Open win and still has as much love for the game as ever before.
