Wimbledon is the biggest fortnight of the year for British tennis and has served up a number of shocks over the years at SW19.
Here, BOYLE Sports have taken a look at 10 Wimbledon upsets and ranked them.
Pete Sampras v George Bastl
1. Pete Sampras v George Bastl (2002)
The old Court Two was nicknamed the 'graveyard of champions' and it accounted for the biggest of them all when Swiss lucky loser Bastl , ranked 145 in the world, knocked out the seven-time winner. ' Pistol Pete's ' 6-3 6-2 4-6 3-6 6-4 defeat was to be his last match at Wimbledon.
Steffi Graf v Lori McNeil
2. Steffi Graf v Lori McNeil (1994)
Graf could not say she hadn't been warned as McNeil had beaten her at the WTA Championships two years earlier. No one expected a repeat, except perhaps McNeil herself. A 7-5 7-6 defeat meant Graf became the first defending women's champion to be knocked out in the first round.

Boris Becker v Peter Doohan
3. Boris Becker v Peter Doohan (1987)
Becker had stunned the sporting world two years earlier by winning the title as an unseeded 17-year-old and retained it 12 months later. Doohan , by contrast, had played at Wimbledon four times without winning a match. His unexpected 7-6 4-6 6-2 6-4 victory paved the way for fellow Australian Pat Cash to win the title.
Martina Hingis v Jelena Dokic
4. Martina Hingis v Jelena Dokic (1999)
A shock made all the more seismic by the brutality of the scoreline. Swiss star Hingis , the champion two years earlier, actually led 16-year-old Australian qualifier Dokic 2-1. But she did not win another game as Dokic dished out a bruising 6-2 6-0 defeat in just 54 one-sided minutes.
Rafael Nadal v Steve Darcis
5. Rafael Nadal v Steve Darcis (2013)
Not for the first time, or indeed the last, Nadal rolled into Wimbledon as the French Open champion - and with a proud record of having never lost in the first round of a grand slam. Enter Belgian world number 135 Darcis , a 1,500-1 outsider who sent the Spaniard packing 7-6 7-6 6-4.
Serena Williams v Alize Cornet
6. Serena Williams v Alize Cornet (2014)
Cornet had said she hated playing on grass and the French player had never beaten a top-10 opponent at a grand slam. She dropped the first set easily to the world number one and five-time champion. But then she started hitting winners and simply did not stop in a thrilling 1-6 6-3 6-4 victory.
Roger Federer v Sergiy Stakhovsky
7. Roger Federer v Sergiy Stakhovsky (2013)
Nadal's unscheduled exit two days earlier suddenly seemed relatively trivial. Federer had strolled on to Centre Court as the seven-time and defending champion. Exactly three hours later he was out on his ear, Ukrainian world number 116 Stakhovsky triumphing 6-7 7-6 7-5 7-6.
Venus Williams v Coco Gauff
8. Venus Williams v Coco Gauff (2019)
Five-time champion Williams may have been well past her best aged 39 but she would still have expected to progress past first-round opponent Gauff , a 15-year-old ranked 313. But the precocious teen - who was not born when Williams won her second SW19 title - beat her hero 6-4 6-4 and went on to reach the last 16 at her breakthrough tournament.

Lleyton Hewitt v Ivo Karlovic
9. Lleyton Hewitt v Ivo Karlovic (2003)
Australian Hewitt had taken advantage of Sampras ' shock loss a year earlier to claim the title. Fast forward 12 months and the world number one was beaten on day one by unknown 6ft 10in Croat Karlovic , ranked 203, who announced himself to the sport in a blur of aces to win 1-6 7-6 6-3 6-4.
Justine Henin v Marion Bartoli
10. Justine Henin v Marion Bartoli (2007)
Bartoli was a surprise semi-finalist, the 22-year-old Frenchwoman having previously won only four matches in four years at Wimbledon. Henin , by contrast, was the world number one and in supreme form. Cue a stunning 1-6 7-5 6-1 victory for the underdog, who finished runner-up to Venus Williams but won the title in 2013.
