Ladies Day has become a phenomenon in itself and at times has even overshadowed the main racing event.
It's a chance to don the finery and compete for amazing prizes, and with the buzz to impress at the biggest race of the year, the competition to be crowned winner at the BoyleSports Irish Grand National is fierce.
Travelling the length and breadth of Ireland, in their droves, ladies trot along in their perfectly put together ensembles. From high street brands to designer boutiques, it’s not a hobby, it’s a celebrated art.

Ladies who enter this Easter Monday 17th April 2017 will be in with a chance of winning a magnificent prize courtesy of hosts Carton House.
The Carton House Most Stylish Lady winner will win a luxurious overnight stay in the Presidential Suite at Carton House before jetting off to enjoy two night’s bed and breakfast and an evening meal in a hotel in the prosecco region of Italy, in conjunction with Eno wines.
This amazing trip includes a visit to the Bortolotti Prosecco Winery, with lunch, and transfers to and from the airport and winery. Plus the winner will spend their last night back at the Presidential Suite at Carton House to finish in spectacular style.
The theme is ‘Pomp and Splendour’ and BoyleSports have come up with a whole host of odds to assist the ladies in making their final decisions on their ensembles. Currently White/Cream, which won in 2015, is the firm 6/4 front-runner to be the winning colour, however Pink/Purple is also a strong contender at 11/4.
Over the years hats have taken on a whole new life of their own. You will witness the good, the bad and the downright ridiculous headpieces around, some leaving you to wonder how they keep their heads up!
Nevertheless it has kept milliners in business and what a fantastic thing it is, it would be a shame to see such a fine craft die out because hats are no longer ‘in style’.
Fashion changes constantly, but Ladies Day does not always succumb to this spring’s latest trend, classic 1800’s vintage style always peeps through taking us back in time, which is what makes it such a great tradition in racing and a wonderful spectacle.
Jenny Buckley, Judge, Carton House Most Stylish Lady “I’m really looking forward to judging this year’s Carton House Most Stylish Lady competition at Fairyhouse on BoyleSports Irish Grand National Day.
I’ve always been a lover of fashion and women in Ireland seem to be very confident when it comes to racing glamour. From magnificent displays of millinery to this season’s game-changing colours and textures, in keeping with the theme, we are encouraging ladies to bring their own innate sense of Pomp and Splendour to this year’s competition.
I’ll be looking for those who feel confident and comfortable in their own skin while looking stylish and sophisticated. My top tip: Remember the theme, dress for the weather, smile and try not to over think it!”

Aoife Heffron, Spokeswoman for BoyleSports “Ladies Day betting is always entertaining and gives those entering a chance to see where they might fare out in the competition. We have a whole host of specials available for those attending or interested in Carton House Most Stylish Lady.
The main market being the colour of the winning outfit which sees Cream/White and Pink/Purple the key colours dominating the betting to be adorned by the Most Stylish Lady. Hats are a pinnacle part of any ladies day event and are red hot at 1/3 to be part of the winning outfit.
To make things that bit more exciting on the day, BoyleSports also have an enhanced double on the Winner of the Irish Grand National and Most Stylish Lady – Cream/White to win Most Stylish Lady and Our Duke to win Irish Grand National 20/1.”
