Stardivarius has been the subject of a renewed burst in support for next year’s Ascot Gold Cup after ending the season in style.

Frankie Dettori had to fight for a run in the Ascot opener on Saturday but held off a spirited challenge from Willie Mullins’ Thomas Hobson to make it five wins from five in 2018.

John Gosden’s colt was immediately backed for the Ascot Gold Cup next June and is now 2/1 favourite from 3/1 with us, with Kew Gardens his nearest rival in the antepost market at 6/1.

Gosden was later denied in the Fillies and Mares Stakes when Even money favourite Lah Ti Dar was beaten into 3rd place by Aidan O’Brien’s Magical.

The daughter of Galileo has since made a significant move up the market for the Breeders’ Cup Fillies and Mares Turf, seeing her odds halved from 10/1 into 5/1.
