Spain v Germany Preview
Spain’s Form
Spain qualified for the tournament with 7 wins and 1 defeat (against Scotland). They scored 25 goals across those qualification games and had a watertight defence with only 5 goals conceded in 2023. Spain started their 2024 campaign with a 0-1 defeat against Colombia and a 3-3 against Brazil. Ahead of the tournament they had a 5-1 win against Northern Ireland.
The Spaniards have been the team of the tournament at Euro 2024 and started in flying fashion with a 3-0 victory against Croatia, which was followed by two 1-0 victories against Italy and Albania. They then continued their perfect tournament record coming from behind in the Round of 16 before they convincingly beat Georgia by a 4-1 scoreline.
De la Fuente has managed Spain since he was appointed on the 8th of December 2022 following the resignation of Luis Enrique after they were knocked out of the World Cup Round of 16 by Morocco. Throughout Euro 2024 they’ve averaged 20.5 shots per game, 59.8% possession, 90.5% pass completion percentage and 13.3 aerials won.

Germany’s Form
The Tournament Hosts are in search of their fourth Euro Championship after wins in 1972, 1980 and 1996. Their 2023 record was poor with 5 defeats, 2 draws and 2 wins from 9 games. However, since the turn of the year, things have looked more positive, in March they defeated France 0-2 and The Netherlands 2-1. Ahead of the tournament they then drew 0-0 against Ukraine and defeated Greece 2-1.
There were no opening tournament nerves with a 5-1 win against Scotland in the opening game of Euro 2024 followed by a 2-0 win against Hungary and a 1-1 draw against the Swiss securing their passage to the knockout stages. In their Round of 16 game against Denmark, Havertz and Musiala scored for a routine 2-0 win booking their place in this game against Spain.
Germany have been managed by Nagelsmann since he was appointed on the 22nd of September 2023 replacing the sacked Hansi Flick, becoming Germany's second youngest coach at 36. Nagelsmann has experience though having already been in senior management for seven seasons with spells at Hoffenheim in 2016 at 28 followed by spells with RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and now Germany. At Euro 2024 Germany average 18 shots per game, 65.8% of possession, a pass completion percentage of 91.6% and 10.8 aerials won.

Key Players To Watch
Nico Williams – Spain
When somebody speaks about the “coincidental” Spanish Footballer, one usually thinks of a midfielder who is comfortable in the Tika-taka style of short passing and movement, working the ball through various channels, and maintaining possession.
However, with Williams (21) who plays his club football with Athletic Club, they have a footballer who offers something quite different to a usual Spanish squad member. Williams is a traditional winger who likes to cut inside with his electric pace and showstopping skill making him very different to the usual Spanish threat while also capable of linking up for the stereotypical Spanish build-up.
Jamal Musiała – Germany
The former England Underage attacker and Bayern Munich footballer Musiala (21) has probably been their player of the tournament so far. In their opening game against Scotland, he scored a goal and provided an assist. That was followed by a goal against Hungary and a more quiet showing against The Swiss. However, he was back on song against Denmark scoring again.
Musiala is arguably the best-attacking midfielder/winger in the world right now with his elite dribbling, passing and general defensive contribution.
Spain v Germany Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Spain 2-1 Germany
Spain have been the team of the tournament at Euro 2024 and look to be going from strength to strength. While arguably not a patch of their sides which have been previously so dominant this side has another dimension with their dynamic and flashy wingers.
Tournament Hosts Germany have cruised through to this stage of the competition and like Spain have a star-studded squad with plenty of class and strength in depth from back to front.
This is set up to be one of the games of the tournament with both giants in flying form! It could go either way but I think Spain might just edge it in a thriller.
