Spain v Georgia Preview
Spain’s Form
Spain qualified for the tournament with 7 wins and 1 defeat (against Scotland). They scored 25 goals across those qualification games and had a watertight defence with only 5 goals conceded in 2023. Spain started their 2024 campaign with a 0-1 defeat against Colombia and a 3-3 against Brazil. Ahead of the tournament, they had a 5-1 win against Northern Ireland.
The Spaniards have been the team of the tournament at Euro 2024 and started in flying fashion with a 3-0 victory against Croatia, which was followed by two 1-0 victories against Italy and Albania which means they’re the only team with a perfect record left in the tournament with 5 goals scored and none conceded.
De la Fuente has managed Spain since he was appointed on the 8th of December 2022 following the resignation of Luis Enrique when they were knocked out of the 2O22 World Cup Round of 16 on penalties by Morocco. Since taking the helm for Spain he has guided them to a strong record of 13 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats for a win rate of 76.47% and a Goal Difference of +34. Throughout Euro 2024 they’ve averaged 15.7 shots per game, 54.4% possession, 88.5% pass completion percentage and 14.3 aerials won.

Georgia’s Form
Georgia were drawn in a tough qualifying group and finished behind Spain, Scotland and Norway only coming ahead of Cyprus. However, they qualified then through the playoff path defeating Luxembourg 2-0 before a 4-2 penalty victory against The Greeks. Ahead of the tournament, they played one warm-up game which was a 1-3 win over Montenegro.
Georgia may be the tournament's lowest-ranked side, but they certainly aren’t playing like it! Despite putting in a brilliant showing against Turkey in their opener, two late goals meant they opened Euro 2024 with a 3-1 defeat. However, they got the fruits of their effort against Czechia taking the lead; they were penned back but held on for a draw. It all came together against Portugal though with a brilliant performance earning them a 2-0 win albeit against a rotated side, it meant they qualified for the knockout rounds for the last time.
Under Willy Sagnol (a man linked with the Republic of Ireland role) they’ve been tactically flexible but usually with some variation of a 3-5-2, 3-4-3 or 3-4-1-2. However, they used a 5-3-2 for their final group game against Portugal they used a 5-3-2 and due to its success, I can see it being used against the Spanish again. Throughout the tournament, they averaged 8.7 shots per game 36.4% possession, a pass completion percentage of 81.4%and 10.3 aerials won per game.

Key Players To Watch
Nico Williams – Spain
When somebody speaks about the “coincidental” Spanish Footballer, one usually thinks of a midfielder who is comfortable in the Tika-taka style of short passing and movement, working the ball through various channels, and maintaining possession.
However, with Williams (21) who plays his club football with Athletic Club, they have a footballer who offers something quite different to a usual Spanish squad member. Williams is a traditional winger who likes to cut inside with his electric pace and showstopping skill making him very different to the usual Spanish threat while also capable of linking up for the stereotypical Spanish build-up.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – Georgia
In a Georgian side more known for being the sum of its parts and a well-drilled and coached side one star shines bright and that is the Napoli attacker (23). There was big pressure on his shoes for this tournament and he underwhelmed in their opening two group games.
He came alive against Portugal though, he was a constant threat having three shots one of which was one of the Georgian goals, making 9/9 passes and completing 3/3 of his dribbles. He will have a huge role to play if they’re to slay another “big team” in this game.

A stunning start to the game as Kvaratskhelia gives Georgia the lead with less than two minutes on the clock. They need to win and this is a dream start.

Spain v Georgia Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Spain 2-0 Georgia
Spain have been the most consistent side at Euro 2024 and have quality across the squad but unlike the typical Spanish sides of old not only have quality in midfield but have some dynamic and exciting attackers on the flanks.
Georgia head into this with no pressure on their shoulders, they also know the Spanish well after their 1-7 and then 3-1 defeats to them during qualifying demonstrating a marked improvement. It wouldn’t shock me if they kept things even tighter on Sunday.
Spain should show their class here and extend their winning run to six wins in a row.
