Punters on red alert over Amorim’s future

Gareth Southgate is the likeliest candidate to assume the hotseat at Old Trafford should Manchester United part ways with Ruben Amorim, according to the latest speculation in the betting stakes.

BOYLE Sports makes the former England boss the 11/4 favourite (from 5/1) to be the Red Devils’ next permanent manager as pressure increases on current boss Ruben Amorim following last weekend’s 3-0 defeat in the Manchester derby.

Part-owner Jim Ratcliffe is said to have flown into United’s training base at Carrington this week for talks with the under-fire coach, whose unyielding system is stirring debate among pundits and fans alike. Manchester United have won just one of their opening four Premier League matches and saw their League Cup campaign falter at the first hurdle at the hands of League Two Grimsby.

Could Nuno Bounce-Back?

Fans will be hoping to see a turnaround in form as Chelsea visit Old Trafford on Saturday evening; however, punters are increasingly speculating on a change in the dugout, with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner also prominent in the betting at 5/1.

Nuno Espirito Santo has surged up to 6/1 third favourite following his exit from Nottingham Forest, while former United midfielder and short-time caretaker boss Michael Carrick is rated an 8/1 shot to return to the club in the top job.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:

“Every match is starting to feel like a Cup Final for Ruben Amorim after such a slow start, and more and more punters believe the writing is on the wall.”
