Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been backed to become the permanent manager of Manchester United despite only being appointed on an interim basis.

The former fans’ favourite oversaw training on Thursday as he arrived to begin his stint as United manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho on Tuesday. Molde meanwhile stated that they expect Solskjaer to be back the helm in Norway in May.

Solskjaer is now just a 3/1 shot after being backed in from 9/2 to get the nod to manage the Red Devils into next season.""

Reports on Thursday suggested that Manchester United have already agreed a compensation package with Molde worth over £7m should they wish to retain the services of Solskjaer on a permanent basis.

Mauricio Pochettino, who is believed to be the number one target of United Chief Executive Ed Woodward, is still the frontrunner to be the Manchester United manager on the first day of the 2019/20 season at 2/1, with former Real Madrid manager the third favourite behind Solskjaer at 6/1.
