As Manchester United navigate a challenging season, Teddy Sheringham believes the January transfer window could be pivotal in their bid to rebuild.
Speaking exclusively to us here at BoyleSports, the former Red Devils striker emphasised the need for top-quality signings and a ‘massive rebuild’ at the club.
Sheringham identified a Premier League striker he feels would be the ideal addition to Ruben Amorim’s squad, describing the potential move as a ‘statement signing’ that could reignite United’s attack and set the tone for a brighter future.
Big January Signings Could Be On The Way At Old Trafford
Q: Will we see huge January signings at Man Utd?
I wouldn't be surprised to see two big January signings at Manchester United. I think Manchester United need to rebuild, but it’s hard to get big names and proper players in the January window.
I think it's a time to work in the background and look for players to start next season. I'd like to see big signings but it’s going to be difficult.
Gyokeres Would Take Time To Adapt To Demands of Premier League
Q: Would signing Viktor Gyokeres be crushing for Rasmus Hojlund?
Man Utd signing Viktor Gyokeres would be harsh on Rasmus Hojlund. Hojlund has been feeding off scraps for the last 18 months and I think he's done very well to find himself on the score sheet in the amount of times that he has.
Gyokeres might be a slight step up but when you go out and spend the money they did on Hojlund instead of going for Harry Kane at the time, they obviously think he's a good player.
He's still learning his trade and he's still a young man. Gyokeres is proven in Portugal but the Premier League is a different game, especially when it comes to stepping up week in and week out.
His confidence is high in Portugal but it would take time to adapt for him and bringing him in would also harm Hojlund’s prospects.
This Premier League Star Striker Would Be Perfect Statement Signing For Man United
Q: Should Man Utd go after Alexander Isak?
Manchester United is still a massive draw for any player and playing for the club is still a highlight of anyone’s career.
Would Alexander Isak consider joining United if a bid came in? Without a doubt. I’m not saying a deal will get done but he would be the perfect signing for United.
He can lead the line and score goals and could be a statement signing for the new regime. He is full of confidence at the moment and could lead by example.
Where Man United’s Squad Needs To Improve
Q: Where do Man Utd most need to strengthen?
Man Utd just need an overall upgrade. They have good players but not top players. People were picking combined XIs with Liverpool with not a single United player in there.
That is unheard of when you think about the last 30 years. When top players became available, United used to go out and break the bank to get them. That isn’t the case at the moment. There is a massive rebuilding job to do.
*Man United are 14/1 to finish in the top 6 per the latest Premier League odds at BoyleSports.
Joshua Zirkzee Needs Time To Settle
Q: What do you make of Joshua Zirkzee’s time at Man Utd so far?
When you're playing for a top club the demands are high and it takes a top player to handle that situation. You have to demand to be playing and show you can take the pressure.
For Joshua Zirkzee, he is a young player and has had a tough time of it. It’s too early to say where his career might take him because he’s a young man that needs time to settle.
Amad Diallo’s Form
Q: How impressed have you been with Amad?
I really like Amad Diallo and he has come alive since Ruben Amorim’s arrival. He likes playing for this manager and understands what is wanted from him.
He’s playing with so much confidence at the moment and it’s great to see.
Teddy Sheringham Doesn’t Rule Himself Out of Being Striking Coach at Man United
Q: Would you ever consider being a striking coach at Man Utd?
I was a striking coach at West Ham under Sam Allardyce and I really loved it. Would I listen to an offer if Manchester United called? Who knows. You never say never in football.
