With jockeys from 10 different countries in action at Ascot on Saturday, we've picked out three selections for punters to consider in our 2025 Shergar Cup tips.
New Shergar Cup Format: What’s Changed?
A shake-up in the format for the 24th renewal means there is no Ladies team this year after the now-retired Hayley Turner led her side to a dramatic success 12 months ago.
Instead, the riders are split up into sections representing Great Britain & Ireland, Europe, Asia and a Rest of the World outfit.
American pilot Katie Davis, who starred in the hit Netflix series Race for the Crown, makes her event debut for the last-named team and said: "It was amazing to be invited and it should be a great buzz to ride on such a big day at Ascot, one of the most famous racecourses in the world.
“I think it’s great what they have done with the teams this year and I can’t wait to compete in the Rest of the World team along with all the other jockeys from across the globe.”
The first five riders in each race score points, ranging from 15 for a win and 10 for second, all the way down to three for fifth place.

Shergar Cup Tips
1.35pm Tip – TOCA MADERA
France’s all-time leading female jockey Delphine Santiago, who is approaching 750 career wins, kicks off a nice book of rides by partnering Brian Meehan's sprinter in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash over five furlongs.
Drawn in stall one, the four-year-old caught the eye making late headway when fourth of 14 in a competitive handicap over the same course and distance last month.
Santiago will also be expected to pick up good points from Tenability at 3.55 and could well challenge for the individual Alistair Haggis Silver Saddle award if getting off to a flying start here.

Horse | Odds | Chance |
|---|---|---|
Toca Madera | 4/1 | 20% |
Vintage Clarets | 5/1 | 16.7% |

3.55pm Tip – MDAWI
The hat-trick seeking Tenability is a firm favourite to oblige in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Classic over a mile and a half, but Mdawi may offer better each-way value.
Charlie Johnston's charge has already struck at Southwell and Doncaster this year and went into the notebook following the first of two outings at Glorious Goodwood.
Second on Wednesday and then unplaced on Saturday last week, Mdawi ran much better when ridden more patiently on the opening occasion and if Joanna Mason adopts a similar plan, he can go well.
Ascot 3.55pm Odds
Horse | Odds | Chance |
|---|---|---|
Tenability | 13/8 | 38.1% |
Topteam | 11/4 | 26.7% |
Mdawi | 9/2 | 18.2% |
Prince Of The Seas | 8/1 | 11.1% |

4.30pm Tip – URBAN LION
Australian rider Hugh Bowman, best known for his association with champion racemare Winx, whom he partnered to a record 25 Group One victories, can get a win on the board in the closing Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile.
Urban Lion did not enjoy too much luck in running when finishing fifth in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot and a 1lb rise in the ratings could prove generous.
He had previously finished a fine second in Newbury's Spring Cup before returning from a two-month break to score in a comfortable manner at Sandown and Jack Channon's four-year-old is open to further improvement.
Ascot 4.30pm Odds
Horse | Odds | Chance |
|---|---|---|
Urban Lion | 3/1 | 25% |
Ebt’s Guard | 4/1 | 20% |
Arisaig | 5/1 | 16.7% |
Treasure Time | 5/1 | 16.7% |
