Shane Lowry is being backed to secure a timely win on the PGA Tour this week as the prestigious FedEx Cup Playoffs reach the closing stages.
Tony Finau won the weather-delayed Northern Trust in New Jersey after a play-off with Cameron Smith on Monday, but Lowry caught the eye of Irish punters with his tied-11th finish, which included a stunning third round of 62.
The Offaly man sits 47th in the FedEx Cup rankings and must finish inside the top 30 by Sunday evening to book a spot in next week’s PGA Tour finale at the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
He has now been cut into 33/1 from 45/1 by BoyleSports to top the leaderboard in Maryland this week, with World Number 1 Jon Rahm set to go off the 11/2 favourite.
Lowry has also been backed into 7/1 from 9/1 to boost his prospects with a top five finish, while the chances of him finishing inside the top ten have been trimmed into 5/2 from 7/2.
