Shamrock Rovers v Molde Preview
Shamrock Rovers’ Form
Shamrock Rovers dominated Irish Football domestically from 2020-2024 winning four successive league titles and just falling short on the final day last season against Shelbourne. Until this season though they were disappointing when it came to their European exploits, though 10 points in the Conference league phase meant they advanced to the playoff of this competition with a seeded spot.
They opened their Premier Division campaign at the weekend following a historic fixture at the Aviva Stadium where a record 33,208 crowd attended a league match on the island. However, Rovers failed to turn up on the big occasion and eventually fell to a 1-0 defeat against their bitter rivals Bohemians.
In the first leg of this tie, Shamrock Rovers earned them a historic away result against Molde to win 0-1. This victory puts them within a historic chance of booking their place in the Conference League Round of 16.

Molde Form
Molde finished 5th in the Eliteserien last season coming ten points behind league winners FK Bodø/Glimt which means they haven’t won their domestic division since 2019 under Erling Moe. This season in the Europa Conference league they finished in 23rd position following seven points from their six matches to earn them an unseeded playoff spot.
Ahead of their first-leg tie last week, the Norwegians despite being amid their league off-season they were expected to be too good for Shamrock Rovers in their playoff first leg. However, Molde were restricted to just four shots before falling to a 0-1 defeat against Shamrock Rovers. Though they’re expected to overcome their deficit from the first leg they’ll need to be in tip-top form if they’re to stand a chance.
Molde has some good players including captain Magnus Wolff Eikrem (34) who came through at Man United and has represented Norway at the International Level so have the quality to overturn the deficit.

Key Players To Watch
Daniel Mandriou– Shamrock Rovers
Following a couple of seasons in the UK at Lincoln City which was a mixed bag and marred by inconsistency the former Ireland U16, U19 and U21 International signed with Shamrock Rovers last August. His ability can’t be questioned, and he has the capability of producing magic at any point in a game.
With Rovers lacking depth in the CF areas, he has been played up-front recently and it’ll be interesting to see if he has a long-term future at the club. He is priced at 10/1 to score first and 10/3 to score at any time on the night.
Mandriou anytime goal - 10/3
Frederik Ihler - Molde
Molde were kept scoreless in the first leg and yet Ihler (21) was kept on the bench. The former Denmark U21 International has been in good form though in the Conference League scoring four times, in six games and just 191 minutes. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s handed his third start of the campaign this season.
Ihler is currently priced at 11/2 to score first or 9/4 to score at any point in the match.
Ihler anytime goal - 9/4
Shamrock Rovers v Molde Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Shamrock Rovers 1-1 Molde
Shamrock Rovers have one step in what will be a historic Round of 16 tie for the club but will need to finish the job on Thursday Night.
Molde are favourites for this game in ninety minutes but are slightly less favoured to qualify for the next round meaning this tie is very much in the balance.
I think Rovers just do enough to qualify for the Round of 16.
