Hearts

Unlikely Challengers Hearts

Hearts have been slashed to 9/1 with BOYLE Sports in their Scottish Premiership outright winner odds following a flying start to the season.

The Jambos went into the international break joint-top of the table with Celtic on 10 points after coming from behind to prevail 2-1 at Livingston.

Lewis Smith’s 26th-minute strike put Livi ahead at half-time, but Alexandros Kyziridis came off the bench to set up Claudio Braga for an equaliser in the 47th minute before the Greek winger curled in a brilliant late winner himself.

New record signing Ageu also impressed as a substitute for Hearts, who were roared on by around 6,300 travelling fans.

“We were far more competitive in the second half, played forward, asked the questions,” said manager Derek McInnes. “Livingston were struggling to catch their breath, and that is what I need us to be.

“With that crowd behind you, you always feel another goal is coming. Wee Kyziridis gets the winner, and it was no more than we deserved.”

Celtic

Hoops fail to address striker shortage

Celtic remain red-hot favourites at 1/8 for a fifth straight title, but did look light up front in a dreary goalless draw against arch-rivals Rangers at Ibrox.

The Hoops then allowed former record signing Adam Idah to join Swansea, although head coach Brendan Rodgers hailed Tunisia winger Sebastian Tounekti as a “really exciting addition".

Rodgers told the club website: “He will give us that real added attacking intent, and I am sure he can make a big difference to us. He is a quick, clever winger who can operate on both sides, creating opportunities for himself and others.”

Rangers

Gers pin hopes on Chermiti

Rangers have ground to make up after a slow start, picking up just four points from as many matches, and they are 6/1 in the Scottish Premiership outright winner odds.

The Light Blues should at least be boosted by the arrival of striker Youssef Chermiti from Everton for a fee that could potentially rise to £10million and Marseille’s Canada international centre-back Derek Cornelius.

Russell Martin said of Chermiti on the Rangers website: “He’s a young striker with huge potential and a lot of the qualities we were looking for in that position.

“At just 21, he already has valuable experience at a high level, and we believe this is the right environment for him to continue his development. We’re excited to work with him over the coming years and help him fulfil that potential here at Rangers.”

Hearts are 8/13 favourites to fare best in the betting without Celtic and Rangers, followed by Edinburgh rivals Hibs on 7/2.
