Scotland supporters have revealed their biggest 'fanxieties' ahead of the Euros - being thrashed by Germany, failing to score a single goal, and Andy Robertson getting injured.
A poll of 2,000 adults who watch football – including Scotland fans – found that 87% have worries about their side's prospects in the forthcoming tournament which is taking place in Germany.
Other worries include not getting a single point in the group stages, England doing better than Scotland, and losing to a last-minute goal.
Scotland Fans' Euro 2024 Expectations
According to the research commissioned by BoyleSports, 38% of respondents are fairly confident in Scotland's chances - convinced they'll make the last eight at least, with an optimistic 2% believing they can reach the final.
However, 26% fear they'll be eliminated in the group stages.
A spokesperson from BoyleSports, a betting provider known for its early payout offers, commented:
"As much as fans love football, it can be quite stressful.
“Scotland have never got beyond the group stages which might explain why so many fans have worries about their prospects in Germany.
“But maybe, just maybe they’ll finally reach the knockout stages and then who knows what could happen – there would be plenty of teams worried about facing Scotland that’s for sure.”
Tartarn Army Fear Another Gazza-like Wondergoal
Other fanxieties among supporters include being too defensive, worries over Che Adams’ fitness, and scoring too early.
Possible defensive weaknesses due to injuries to Nathan Patterson and Aaron Hickey, heavy losses to both Hungary and Switzerland, along with VAR decisions going against them are also concerns.
As are conceding a Gazza ’96-esque wondergoal against England if they come up against them and finding themselves in a penalty shootout.
It also emerged, that 29% of Scotland fans have been left in tears as a result of their team’s performance on the international stage.
And while the Tartan Army might have fears they could be left similarly emotional again, there appears to be optimism about the future.
More than six in ten (63%) are keen to see Steve Clarke remain in charge regardless of what happens.
There are other things fans are certain of too – 32% think the tournament would be better if Wales had qualified.
While 35% feel the same way about the Republic of Ireland and 30% about Northern Ireland.
A spokesperson for BoyleSports added:
"Clearly ‘Fanxiety’ is a very real side effect of watching football and with just days to go until Euro 2024, Scottish fans are feeling the pressure!
