Which Meeting Are You Most Looking Forward To This Weekend?
Ascot 14:05
Ascot 14:05 – L’eau Du Sud
Dan Skelton’s seven-year-old was an exciting novice over fences, rattling off four straight victories before just failing to get up the Cheltenham hill in the Arkle after being bang there at the final obstacle.
He has plenty of weight to carry in the Grundon Waste Management Handicap Chase, but Tristan Durrell’s 3lb claim is a nice boost, and L’Eau du Sud may just prove a cut above this company.
Wetherby 14:22
Wetherby 14:22 – Strong Leader
Trainer Olly Murphy is in red-hot form, and this classy eight-year-old will have conditions to suit in the Grade Two bet365 Hurdle, having been an impressive scorer at the same level on his seasonal reappearance last term.
Down Royal 14:40
Down Royal 14:40 – Envoi Allen
Henry de Bromhead’s valiant veteran has an outstanding record at this meeting and can hopefully keep that going in the BetVictor Champion Chase.
Envoi Allen won a maiden hurdle here way back in 2019, a beginners chase the following season and a Grade Two event four years ago.
In the past three renewals of this Grade One feature, the 11-year-old has secured two wins, beating Kemboy in 2022 and Hewick last year, and only went down by a neck against Gerri Colombe in between.
Wetherby 14:57
Wetherby 14:57 – The Real Whacker
Patrick Neville’s stable star kept on strongly to upset hot favourite Bravemansgame in last year’s bet365 Charlie Hall Chase and will be going all out to defend his title.
The Real Whacker should have a fitness edge over some of his higher-rated rivals after blowing away any cobwebs in a Perth spin over hurdles, and it could be argued that this is the pinnacle of his campaign, compared to others having bigger targets ahead.
Ascot 15:45
Ascot 15:45 – Le Coq Hardi
Irish handler De Bromhead had a nice winner at Cheltenham last weekend with Zurich and sets his sights on picking up a good pot in the Sodexo Live! Gold Cup Handicap Chase.
Le Coq Hardi ran a fine race considering his inexperience to finish fourth in the Kerry National at Listowel, and that form has since been franked by runner-up Three Card Brag and third-placed French Dynamite striking in strong contests.
