There is more top-class action on the box from Newbury and Warwick this Saturday, and we’ve picked out five selections for punters to consider in our ITV racing tips.
With the Cheltenham Festival just a month away, there could also be some significant antepost clues to garner in another highly anticipated weekend of jumps racing action on the box.
Saturday Horse Racing Tips – ITV Racing From Newbury & Warwick
Warwick 13:50 Tip
Warwick 13:50 – Steel Ally
There is a disappointing turn-out of just three runners for the Grade Two Kingmaker Novices’ Chase, which has been won in the past by the likes of Flagship Uberalles , Voy Por Ustedes , Long Run , Finian’s Rainbow and Jonbon .
At least Steel Ally has been thoroughly impressive in scoring over fences at Carlisle and Ascot and while Mambonumberfive is a serious rival, there is a feeling that our selection might be better suited by the prevailing soft ground.
Newbury 14:10 Tip
Newbury 14:10 – Haiti Couleurs
The Rebecca Curtis -trained Gold Cup hopeful is five from seven over fences, a record which includes big-race triumphs in the National Hunt Chase , the BOYLE Sports Irish Grand National and the Welsh Grand National .
Haiti Couleurs bounced back from a blip at Haydock in November with an excellent weight-carrying performance at Chepstow over Christmas and the testing conditions at Newbury should play to his strengths in the Grade Two Denman Chase.
Warwick 14:25 Tip
Warwick 14:25 – Knappers Hill
This 10-year-old has to carry top weight but should relish taking on fellow veterans after twice competing in smart company since returning from a lengthy absence.
Knappers Hill was a Grade Two scorer in bumpers, over hurdles and fences among 11 career victories prior to that two-year lay-off and can prove a cut above at this level.
Newbury 14:45 Tip
Newbury 14:45 – Lulamba
Nicky Henderson won the Grade Two Game Spirit Chase with Sprinter Sacre and Altior during their novice campaigns before both went on to land the Arkle at Cheltenham and this new Seven Barrows star is on target to complete the same double.
A Triumph runner-up and Punchestown Grade One-winning hurdler, Lulamba has been pretty much foot-perfect in winning his first two starts over fences and can continue to impress in open company.
Newbury 15:20 Tip
Newbury 15:20 – Let It Rain
Title-chasing trainer Dan Skelton can plunder another big handicap prize with this lightly-raced seven-year-old.
Let It Rain looked a classy operator when landing bumper wins at Warwick and Ascot towards the end of 2023 but her career has been stop-start since then, with just three outings over timber.
However, last season’s second to French Ship reads well considering what that victor has gone on to achieve and Let It Rain went one better herself when bolting up at Wetherby next time out.
After another 13 months off, the daughter of Kayf Tara made her latest comeback in an Ascot handicap pre-Christmas and travelled like the best horse in the race before being run out of it in a close finish by Dance And Glance and All In You , both of whom are in opposition again.
Skelton’s mare is expected to improve past that pair with a run under her belt and even though she is up 4lb to a revised mark of 124, she still looks well treated.
