Speaking exclusively with BoyleSports , Manchester United hero Louis Saha has revealed he believes Amorim is the man to restore glory to the club and the importance of balancing Bruno’s role in the side.
Saha has also given insight into what’s required for success at the club and what that could mean for young stars Leny Yoro and Alejandro Garnacho.
Amorim Is The Man!
The first few months of the season are crucial to Ruben Amorim. Last year, there were so many lows in terms of league position, goals conceded, and players not wanting to be part of the group.
But I do think Ruben Amorim is the right guy, he is young, he is energetic, he has got ideas, some things have worked, and other things need to be challenged. The squad last year wasn’t balanced; you need that to win more games, you need to implement your philosophy, and there needs to be hard work.
By Christmas, we will hope you have the squad he wants and to be moving in the right direction. It doesn't mean that we're going to win the Premier League next year, but the club needs to think deeply about the structure and gain confidence, and it could be a few months before we see the result.
Balancing Bruno
Bruno Fernandes playing deeper does give the team balance, but can also lead to the team lacking creativity up front. We couldn’t rely on Amad Diallo, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, and we didn’t have a striker that was able to create his own chances and win games from the very top.
But Bruno can play anywhere. He will find you, so I have no doubt that the system with the right players in each position, then Fernandes can dictate and still have the capacity to get forward because he can run all game.
You can see elements of Frank Lampard in his game, which have kind of disappeared. We need players who have the movement and understanding of the game to take the pressure away from Fernandes.
There is too much pressure on him to create. At one point, Casemiro was doing two jobs, playing number 10 and number six while struggling physically. It’s hard to double up all the time.
High Standards Needed
At Man Utd, we were challenging our team-mates every day and had a really strong mentality, maybe that is missing now. We had that mentality of giving 100% in games and 200% in training. There was so much competition, and that worked on the weekends.
We had big stars, but we all worked hard for places in the team. I remember when Ji-Sung Park was not even on the bench in the Champions League final; the competition was so healthy.
I always say that the hardest defenders to play against were Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand in training. I improved because of them and their communication of how defenders operate.
Yoro’s Potential
Leny Yoro has got huge potential, that's why he signed. I think he has been identified as someone that physically is going to grow and in confidence as well.
I think we've seen it in the last few games. He was bombarding forward, being very strong, sometimes scoring goals. I do like his profile, and you can see that he wants to improve.
Working hard is something, but having a profile where those players don't speak and just want to improve, that is having respect for the club and having dedication. This is the type of thing that we need to see. Next year is going to be very interesting to see these profiles, similar to Amad Diallo.
Those profiles who have enormous talents but don't talk and speak out, they just want to be out there and playing and improving.
I don’t like to see players who think they know everything. I’m happy to see Yoro progressing, and he still has a long way to go; he isn’t a full international yet, he has a lot of targets, and I wish him the best.
Garnacho Gooner
I think getting £45million for Alejandro Garnacho would be good for Man Utd. When you look at his potential, you might be looking at £70m, but there was no fee spent on Garnacho, so it is still cashing in.
You can definitely see that it's difficult to manage those kind of players who are at a very young age and are acting like they are scoring 30 goals a season.
Compare that to Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo or Ryan Giggs at that age. You would raise your hand to speak to a senior player and never be knocking on the door of the manager with your agent. All that does is make people doubt you and question you.
United have too many players in that bracket, and it's not right.
