The Holywood man grabbed his share of the headlines at The Masters last month with a stunning final round of 64 to finish runner-up to maiden major winner Scottie Scheffler and finished just four shots off the winning score to record a fifth place finish on his reappearance at last week’s Wells Fargo Championship.
The in-form Northern Irishman is now a 4/1 shot to add to his major tally this season and the chances of that happening at next week’s PGA Championship have shortened into 10/1 from 12/1 with BoyleSports following the back-to-back 68s on the weekend at the Wells Fargo which secured him his third top-five finish of the year.
A victory in the second major of the year would be McIlroy’s third PGA Championship and a fifth career major, having last landed one of golf’s big four at the same tournament back in 2014 at Valhalla in Kentucky.

McIlroy is also a joint favourite at 12/1 to get his hands on the Claret Jug for a second time when The Open returns to St. Andrew’s in July for the 150th renewal of the event.
The move into favourite for the PGA puts him ahead of Spaniard Jon Rahm (11/1) and Scottie Scheffler, who is a 12/1 shot to remain on course for the grand slam after he slipped into the green jacket in April following his rapid rise to Number 1 in the World Rankings.
McIlroy and Rahm therefore lead the European challenge ahead of Norwegian Viktor Hovland, who is rated at 20/1 to break his major duck following three top-ten finishes on the PGA Tour this year.
A second major championship is the goal for Offaly man Shane Lowry when he tees it up at Southern Hills next week and he followed up his tied-3rd finish at Augusta by finishing in the same position at the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head the following week.
He is 28/1 to double his major tally and add to the Claret Jug he won at Royal Portrush in 2019.
