Robbie Power’s Galway Plate Tips
I won the Galway Plate once, that was a long, long time ago in 2003 and this year’s renewal is very, very competitive.
You can make a case for plenty of horses. I like looking at novice chasers from last season and Down Memory Lane is one that would spring to mind for me. Very good run behind Lecky Watson in Punchestown, that’s Grade 1 form coming back into a handicap.
So I’d be very strong on Down Memory Lane as well as I would be with Anyway who ran a blinder at the Cheltenham Festival when 2nd in a handicap there, has the handicap experience, and had a nice confidence-building win in the beginner’s chase at Kilbeggan a few weeks ago. That’s strong form from the two of them.
I’d be opposing Nurburgring . I’d just question his jumping in a competitive handicap listed over fences, and around Galway, I know it’s a long run from the back of the last, but a lot happens down the back straight, you need to jump around here.
