Republic of Ireland vs Ukraine
Sawyer believes the Republic of Ireland are in for a difficult night in Dublin on Wednesday despite being chalked up as favourites to beat Ukraine in their second UEFA Nations League fixture.
Stephen Kenny’s men suffered a poor start to their campaign going down 1-0 in Armenia, while Ukraine are seeking to bounce back from their World Cup play-off defeat at the hands of Wales.
“Just when you thought everything was coming together for the Republic of Ireland, they suffer what was a really embarrassing defeat to Armenia,” Sawyer told BoyleSports.
“I expected them to win and now they’re coming up against a Ukraine side who have to come to terms with missing out on the World Cup. But I fear that could just spur them on and it’ll be a tricky encounter for the Irish.
“Ukraine have only lost one of their last eight on the road, although Ireland do have a decent home record with a six-match unbeaten streak in Dublin going back 14 months.
"They’ve had good draws in that spell against Belgium, Portugal and Serbia. Being at home is a big factor in their favour, but it’s difficult to discount Ukraine.
“Even though they may be feeling low and disappointed, when they’re on it they’re very difficult to break down.”
The betting makes Republic of Ireland 13/10 favourites to bounce back with a win on home soil with Callum Robinson rated the most likely first goalscorer at 11/2 as he seeks to add his tally of seven international goals.

Wales vs Netherlands
Natalie Sawyer has praised Wales for making their home a fortress ahead of their UEFA Nations League clash with the Netherlands.
Rob Page’s men go into the fixture buoyed by their World Cup play-off victory over Ukraine at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, which earned them their first appearance at the World Cup Finals since the 1958 tournament in Sweden.
“Wales are unbeaten in 19 successive matches in front of their own fans and they’ve made their home a fortress,” Sawyer told BoyleSports.
“What a campaign it’s been for them to reach the World Cup for the first time in 64 years. There are generations of fans who have never seen them at a World Cup and it’s so exciting for them.
“This is another big test coming up against the Netherlands though and it’s an intriguing fixture against a team who didn’t qualify for the last World Cup.
"They are playing brilliantly right now though and Memphis Depay is scoring for fun. I fear there may be a hangover in the Wales camp and the Netherlands will win this one.”
Depay, who scored twice in a 4-1 win away at Belgium last Friday, leads the first goalscorer betting at 7/2, while the Dutch are hot 8/15 shots to back up their opening victory with another three points.
