Real Madrid v Atlético Madrid Preview
Real Madrid’s Form
Real had a sensational 23/24 campaign which culminated in a La Liga and Champions League double. It was always going to be interesting to see how they approached the subsequent summer, but they continued in typical fashion with long long-anticipated signing of Kylian Mbappé on a free transfer from PSG which naturally kept expectation levels high at the club.
It’s already been a successful season for the club with minor cup successes in the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. Their La Liga form has taken a hit in recent weeks though with only five points in their last five matches meaning they’ve fallen on the table from 1st to 3rd. In the Champions League, they were remarkably less than consistent with only fifteen points in the league phase meaning they had to settle for a seeded playoff place. However, they turned on the style in that playoff with a 6-3 aggregate win over Man City winning both legs 2-3 and 3-1 respectively.
This competition always brings the best out of the club and will have their eyes on another Champions League title in the coming months.

Atlético Madrid’s Form
Atletico have been managed by Diego Simeone since 2011, during which time he has made them the most consistent side in Spanish Football aside from the “Axis of Powers” Barcelona and Real Madrid. They came into this season on the back of a 4th finish in the La Liga, Semi-Final appearances in the Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana and a Quarter Final in the Champions League.
It’s been another positive season for Simeone’s side with their 56-point total currently having them well in a La Liga title race only trailing league leaders Barcelona by 1 point and ahead of Real by 2 points. Elsewhere they played out an entertaining 4-4 draw away to Barcelona in their Copa del Rey semi-final first leg. In this competition, they’ve been impressive with 18 points meaning they finished 5th in the league phase and earned an automatic Round of 16 spot.
Atlético shouldn’t be ruled out and in my opinion, are a little overpriced at odds of 3/1 for this game.

Key Players To Watch
Kylian Mbappe - Real Madrid
There was a massive amount of excitement, expectation levels and pressure when Mbappé finally made his move to Madrid from PSG during the summer transfer window.
Despite a slow start to his life at Real Madrid, he has looked like the Mbappé of old in recent weeks. This season he has 27 goals and 4 assists in 3 games and is 7/2 to score first in this game and 5/4 to score at any point.
Kylian Mbappe first goal - 7/2
Alexander Sorloth - Atlético Madrid
The Norway international (29) and former Crystal Palace striker has become a regular scorer across the Super Lig, Bundesliga and La Liga in recent years which subsequently earned him a move to Atlético last summer.
While not as prolific as he was in recent seasons, Sorloth remains an effective striker on his day and has still effectively contributed this season from limited minutes with 13 goals and 2 assists in 1457 minutes which is a goal contribution every 0.92 matches. He is 13/2 to score first in this game and 5/2 to score at any point.
Alexander Sorloth anytime goal - 5/2
Real Madrid v Atlético Madrid Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Real Madrid 2-1 Atlético Madrid
Real have won two of the last three Champions Leagues and will fancy their chances of going close again this season.
Atlético will always be hard to beat and though their season has been positive so far I think it’s more likely they finish ahead of Real in the La Liga than knock them out here.
This will be a close match, but I think Real will do enough to get over the line.
Best Bet: Real Madrid Win + Under 3.5 Goals @ 8/5
Real Madrid Win + Under 3.5 Goals -8/5
