Real Madrid come into this tournament on the back of a season where they hit the crossbar on multiple occasions when it comes to the major trophies, their only silverware came in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

Al-Hilal similarly came close on multiple fronts but like their opponents did find success in their iteration of the Super Cup.

Real Madrid v Al-Hilal Preview

Real Madrid’s Form

Following a 23/24 season where they completed a treble of successes in La Liga, Champions League and Supercopa de Espana it was always going to be a tough season to replicate. Unfortunately, it was far less fruitful finishing as bridesmaids to better rivals Barcelona in La Liga, Copa del Rey, Supercopa de España and getting knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal. They had to settle for victories in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Madrid’s Galáctico policy of signing high-profile, world-class players to boost the team's performance and global brand in a sense is to the envy of every football fan though it doesn’t always translate into the most cohesive of sides. This latest line of Superstars Mbappe, Bellingham, Trent and co will be the job of Xabi Alonso to mesh together following his appointment from Leverkusen at the end of last month.

Real are currently priced at 5/1 to third favourites to win this competition outright and I think that represents value in the market given the stars in their side, Alonso wanting to start his tenure with success and the club’s general attitude toward FIFA competitions.

Al Hilal’s Form

In almost a mirror image to their opponents, in the 23/24 season, Al-Hilal was full of silverware achieving a a quadruple, winning the Saudi Pro League, King Cup, Saudi Super Cup, and Arab Club Champions Cup semi-finalists (losing to Al Nassr in the final), replicating such success was always going to be challenging. This season proved more difficult finishing runners in the league, quarter-finals of the Kings Cup and semi-finals of the ACL Elite though they like their opponents did win a Super Cup.

Much has been made of the Saudi side's strategy when it comes to the massive influx of International talent who have joined the league due to the copious amounts of money being offered to players. Al-Hilal are no stranger to that move Koulibally, Neves, Mitrovic and Cancelo among others their ranks they do have some domestic players with 14/23 names home-based players.

Al-Hilal are superb going forward with their 95 league goals scored this season 15 better than the next best attack Al-Nassr who scored 80. With players like Mitrovic (28 Goals),  Al-Dawsari (26 Goals), Leonardo (25 Goals) and Milinković-Savić (17 Goals) among the contributors.

Key Players To Watch

Kylian Mbappe - Real Madrid

The undisputed main man in this latest line of Real Madrid Galácticos is France International Kylian Mbappé who made his long-anticipated move from PSG last summer. There was great expectations on his shoulders following the move but he delivered from his end with 43 Goals and 5 Assists in 56 Matches.

Despite finishing 2nd in the Saudi-Pro League, Al-Hilal had only the joint sixth-best defence in the league. It’ll be interesting to see if they can stifle Mbappé but if you fancy him to score he can be gotten at 9/4 to score first or 4/9 to score anytime.

Mbappe first goal - 9/4

Aleksandar Mitrovic – Al-Hilal

Followers of the Premier League will be well acquainted with Serbian International Mitrovic from his eight-year stint in English Football first with Newcastle from 2015-2018 and 2018-2023 with Fulham. He remains as ruthless as ever in front of goal with 28 Goals and 7 Assists this season in 36 Games at the club level.

While opponents Madrid are full of Superstars from back to front, the signing of Trent certainly won’t improve them defensively though. Mitrovic is an exceptional finisher especially aerially and he could easily drift into the space he occupies and score at 8/1 to score first or 7/4 to score anytime.

Mitrovic anytime goal - 7/4

Real Madrid v Al-Hilal Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Real Madrid 3-1 Al-Hilal

Real have the ability to tear apart any side and I think they may be one of the sides most intent on taking this competition seriously.

Al-Hilal will have plenty of familiar faces on display Wednesday Night and shouldn’t be ruled out causing Real a scare.

In the end, I think Madrid will win with more than a goal to spare, they should have far too much going forward.

Best Bet: Real Madrid -1 -5/6
