MacIntyre fancied for home double
Golf punters are eyeing a home victory at this week’s Scottish Open after BOYLE Sports cut the chances of Robert MacIntyre into 20/1 from 25/1.
A stellar field lines up at the at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick this week as some of the world’s best players take the opportunity to fine tune their games in a competitive setting before the final major of the season takes centre stage next week when The Open lands in Royal Portrush.
Scheffler Favourite
Two of the three major winners so far head the market, with World Number 1 and PGA Champion Scottie Scheffler the 7/2 favourite to win in Scotland, while Masters winner Rory McIlroy is a 13/2 shot to tee off on home soil next week at The Open as Scottish Open champion.
However punters are rallying behind defending champion MacIntyre to give the home crowd something to cheer about again as he tees it up off the back of his best major performance to date having finished runner-up to J.J. Spaun in last month’s US Open at Oakmont.
The Oban man has since been backed down to 25/1 to break his major duck at The Open, with Scheffler (5/1) and McIlroy (7/1) leading the race for the Claret Jug according to the oddsmakers.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“The patriotic punters are driving Bob MacIntyre’s odds down this week, but with The Open just around the corner, we’re seeing plenty of interest in him making a serious challenge for the Claret Jug too.”
