We have Punchestown Festival tips from our horse racing ambassador Robbie Power ahead of day three of the horse racing action from Naas.
I thought he was a shade unlucky in the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham and soft ground and 3m around Punchestown will play to his strengths. I was on Ashdale Bob when he was second in this race last year behind Klassical Dream, so he has an each-way chance. I wouldn’t rule out Asterion Forlonge either who was a good winner at Fairyhouse during the Easter Festival.
I’m going to give Teahupoo another chance, he is a stayer and a young horse on the improve with plenty more to offer. He is my best bet of the day on Thursday.

The soft ground with suit Dysart Dynamo as the Punchestown chase track is a good track for front runners, so he is a big danger. We saw on Tuesday with Energumene, nothing is straightforward at this festival and short-priced favourites don’t always win as easily as they should.
But I think El Fabiolo has the upper hand over Dysart Dynamo. If something was to go missing with the favourite, then Dysart Dynamo will pick up the pieces.

The other one is the Willie Mullins trained Feu Du Bresil, who won a maiden hurdle in Clonmel beating Gavin Cromwell’s Fameaftertheglory. That is decent form, but Aslukwoodhavit is my preference.

I would have slight preference for the former. It’s not the strongest of renewals and I think he can win for jockey Harry Swan, who is a young jockey on the improve.

The second horse went on to be second in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham and the second horse was third in a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree, so there is strong form there.

Punchestown Champion Stayers Hurdle - 5.25pm
It’s a very competitive renewal of the Stayers’ Hurdle. Sire Du Berlais was very impressive when winning at both Cheltenham and Aintree so he sets the standard. The rain is forecast to come on Thursday mid-morning or early afternoon and I’d be very keen to give Teahupoo another chance.I thought he was a shade unlucky in the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham and soft ground and 3m around Punchestown will play to his strengths. Punchestown 6.35pm - El Fabiolo a class apart
I’m looking forward to seeing El Fabiolo again. He was so impressive in the Arkle at Cheltenham Festival. That form was boosted with Jonbon at Aintree as well. He is a class apart. The soft ground with suit Dysart Dynamo as the Punchestown chase track is a good track for front runners, so he is a big danger. We saw on Tuesday with Energumene, nothing is straightforward at this festival and short-priced favourites don’t always win as easily as they should.

Punchestown 3.40pm
In the first race (3.40) there are two horses against the field in a very competitive handicap hurdle. Aslukwoodhavit for Henry de Bromhead bolted up at Tramore only last week in a maiden hurdle and Mickey O’Connor will be taking five lbs off him.The other one is the Willie Mullins trained Feu Du Bresil, who won a maiden hurdle in Clonmel beating Gavin Cromwell’s Fameaftertheglory. That is decent form, but Aslukwoodhavit is my preference.

Punchestown 4.15pm
In the 4.15 2m Handicap Chase, Dougles Talking put up a brilliant performance at Aintree and was just beaten by Dancing On My Own. Off the back of the Aintree Grand National, Lucinda Russell’s team are in good form, so I think Douglas Talking could take plenty of beating.Click Below For All Our Punchestown 4.15pm Odds
Punchestown 4.50pm
The La Touche Cup (4.50) is probably the most famous race of the festival. Trainer Enda Bolger has an unbelievable record and he is going to be represented with Stealthy Tom and Midnight Maestro.I would have slight preference for the former. It’s not the strongest of renewals and I think he can win for jockey Harry Swan, who is a young jockey on the improve.

Punchestown 6pm
The Charles Byrnes trained Grozni looks the one in the 6.00, with his son Philip Byrnes taking off a valuable five lbs. I think he has been laid out for this race.Click Below For All Our Punchestown 6pm Odds
Punchestown 7.45pm
In the finale Willie Mullins runs Ballyburn who was so impressive when he won his bumper earlier this season. He could be hard to beat, but Henry de Bromhead runs a very nice horse called Slade Steel, who won a bumper in Punchestown earlier this season and the form of that bumper has worked out very well. The second horse went on to be second in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham and the second horse was third in a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree, so there is strong form there.
